F.Y.B.Sc Sem 2 Course 4 Unit 3.Common Human Diseases Respiratory Diseases: Asthma & Bronchitis

Types of Asthma Allergic asthma (Extrinsic Asthma) Non-Allergic asthma (Intrinsic asthma) Mixed Asthma Cough Variant Asthma Exercise Induced Asthma Nocturnal Occupational

CAN BE USED Prednisone : STOPS Asthma attack Nebulizer Bronchial Thermoplasty

BRONCHITIS Respiratory disease : mucous membrane in lungs, bronchial passage becomes inflammed Disease is accompanied by phlegm and breathlessness Two forms : Acute and Chronic Acute Bronchitis : One to three weeks Chronic: 3 months of year , two years in row Inflammation of lining of branchial tubes

Acute Bronchitis Responsible for hacking cough and phlegm production Upper respiratory function Chronic Bronchitis : Long term medical treatment is required Smoking : a major cause ….can damage cillia and affects their functioning In heavy smokers, the mucous membrane lining the airways get inflammed and cillia stops functioning Lungs are clooged with mucous and vulnerable to bacterial/ viral infection which further may lead to permanent damage COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) Chronic Bronchitis : 2 types Emphysema COPD

Causes Viral infections of lung Repeated attacks of acute bronchitis  chronic bronchitis Industrial pollution: Chronic bronchitis in coal miners, grain handlers, metal molders and other types who are exposed to dust and fumes High sulphur Dioxide concentrations in air and other air pollutants

Test and diagnosis Symptoms , medical history, habits , occupation and examination of mucous or oxygen levels in blood Chest X-ray PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) Blood test Remedy and prevention Rest, Drink fluids, breath warm and moist air Take cough supressants and pain relievers to breath easily Avoid smoking Antibiotic: Bacterial Infection Cough medicene Brochiodialtor : Open bronchial tubes and clear out mucus Mucolytics thins or losen in the airways : making it easier to cough sputum Anti-Inflammatory medicenes and gluco -corticoid steroids (for severe )
