It is essential for teenagers to understand the hierarchy of values. Even at an early stage of their lives, they should already learn what things should be given priority over others. Should they give more value to material things or should they prioritize more the relationship they have with the people around them? The decisions should be based on what is more important. It should be kept in mind that the realization of proper order of values would lead to the fulfillment or totality as an individual-responsible, truthful, peace-loving, and God-fearing

NEW RESPONSIBILITIES OF A TEENAGER
The adolescent years can be a challenging phase of defined responsibilities However, taking on new responsibilities helps teens to develop a sense of independence and self-reliance. It is easy for teens to develop poor habits when they do not know how to behave properly Knowing his/her responsibilities as a teen can be helpful in becoming a responsible adult.
1. As an individual Teenagers should be held accountable for their actions. For every wrong action done, whether intentional or by accident, they have to experience the consequences of their mistakes. If they lose something that they borrowed from someone, let them think of a way on how to replace it.
Parents who always cuddle and protect their child from experiencing the outcome of their behavior are hindering the growth of their child's maturity in handling responsibilities. Having a sense of responsibility helps make a person to be matured, critical, and highly esteemed. The more responsibility is given to a child, the more that he she will feel that he/she is trustworthy and capable.
2. As a son or daughter Teens should be obedient to their parents. This includes obeying family rules like curfew hours. They should also be willing to do household chores When teens are obedient, they earn their parents' trust that help strengthen their relationship.
3. As a brother or sister Teens should set an example to their sibling/s by being obedient to their parents, displaying willingness to help with household chores, being physically and emotionally supportive of their family members, and participating in family activities instead of spending time on the phone or other electronic devices during family time. Teens should also learn to engage themselves in family conversations.
4. As a student Teens should focus on doing well in school. This includes attending and participating in class, doing homework, and studying hard. Students who develop good study habits as teenagers will most likely continue to be good students in college and find success in their career.
Teenagers should spend more time on productive activities such as reading, engaging in sports, and participating in school activities that would further develop their personality rather than watching television and playing video games. As a citizen of the community
Responsible citizens understand that in order for a nation or community to succeed, its people should be obliged to cooperate for the common good Even at an early age, teenagers should already develop the love for their community. They should know more about the community they live in, how to defend it whenever it is being challenged or threatened, and participate in its governmental processes or in any activities that promote good cause. It is essential for them to develop interest and awareness on social issues, local. national or world politics, and civic responsibilities.
6. As a faithful devotee or member of a religious group Teenagers should learn to value the religion they believe in. They have the responsibility to protect its ideals and principles and to participate in activities or programs that promote and propagate its teachings. They should also value and respect other people's religion. Some of the conflicts between nations and communities started with disrespecting the beliefs and ideologies of their respective religion.
7 As a media consumer The mass media plays a part in shaping teenage behavior. If teenagers are aware of media influence, they would be able to handle media pressure better These can be good or bad. It can be a positive influence on them if, for example, they are exposed to informative and educational shows On the other hand, it can be destructive if teenagers are exposed to violence, sexual content, and unhealthy and risky actions and behavior This is the reason why the country's Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) came up with ratings for every film and TV show.
. This is to guide the audience to the classification of a show or movie that they could watch according to age. This is something that should not be taken for granted by teenagers. The challenge now is for them to be responsible consumers of media. Teenagers should learn to filter all information that they see and get from the easy access of computer.
8 As a steward of the environment It is a known fact that the earth is in danger of losing its natural resources. Thousands of hectares of forests are being denuded because of industrialization and commercialization Thousands of rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water are being polluted because of industrial and human wastes Mineral resources are rapidly decreasing because of exploitation
and personal gains. This is the scenario of the environment. Different environmental groups took the initiative to start saving natural resources but this is not just their responsibility. Young adults should also do their part since years from now, nothing might be left for them. They may be young, but small actions can make an impact. They should always start at home by disposing and segregating garbage properly, recycling, conserving water, and others. It should be instilled in their minds that the responsibility toward the environment does not require any age.
Factors That Hinder Accomplishing Tasks Among Teenagers
Accomplishing their responsibilities is not an easy task for teenagers. There are times when certain factors hinder them from carrying out their roles. Although they are aware that they should be responsible for their actions, still they cannot help but do things that would cause them harm.
1. Peer pressure They are forced to do irresponsible acts like skipping classes or playing computer games instead of studying. If they refuse their friends, they may no longer be accepted by them. There are also instances wherein they neglect their responsibilities at home. They would rather spend more time with their friends than stay at home and spend quality time with their family.
2. Parents There are instances when parents become the main cause of a teenager's neglect in accomplishing his/her responsibilities. Overprotective parents who cover up the wrong actions of their children would only make them think that all the things they do are right. Another thing is that when they provide everything for them, it makes them too dependent. They would just rely on their parents. This hinders their growth to become independent and responsible individuals
Media Exposing teenagers to media without teaching them to filter all the information that they will absorb poses a great danger of making them irresponsible media consumers. Teenagers are curious individuals. They would look into every site possible on the Internet that would fulfill their curiosity Without someone to guide them, something may go wrong.
Overcoming the Challenges in Becoming Responsible Teenagers
These problems can be avoided if proper guidance is given to them. Parents play a very important role if these problems arise. They should always maintain an open communication with their child to know the things that are going on with him/her. They should always make quality time for him/her. But it is not only the responsibility of parents to look after their children. It is also the duty of other people around them, such as their teachers, relatives, media owners and administrators, and spiritual counselors. If they are properly guided, they would be successful in performing their responsibilities as teenagers.
But above those mentioned, it is the teenagers who should help themselves. They should learn to acquire and develop certain skills to become responsible in their lives. They should be internally motivated to do different tasks without being prompted or ordered. If they are always motivated to be responsible by external factors like money or rewards, chances are they would only do things because they will be receiving something in return. If the rewards are gone chances are they would lose the drive of being responsible. Another thing that should be developed in them is the value of commitment. They should always put their heart and their very best in everything they do.
