RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
What is responsible consumption and production It is about promoting resource and energy efficiency sustainable infrastructure and providing access to basic services green and decent jobs and a better quality of life for all.
Responsible consumption and production means using things wisely. It means recycling, reusing and reducing
Negative effects of irresponsible consumption and production Depletion of resources Damage to ecosystem Disappearance of habitats of flora and fauna Extinction of species
Soil degradation Water shortage Global warming Climate change Spreading of diseases
Excess waste and pollution Social and economic inequality and instability Inflation Economic crisis
Society will be divided as two: Haves and have nots Concentration of resources in the hands of few. Loss of cultural heritage
What will happen in the future? Currently, over 60% of the ecosystems and their services upon which we relay are degraded, over exploited or already lost.
Unsustainable consumption and production patterns are: Increasing water and air pollution Land and forest degradation Waste generation and The use of harmful chemical substances
Greenhouse gas emission Effluent discharges to water bodies, soils and air Natural resource depletion
Environmental impacts like: Climate change Biodiversity loss and Pollution
How can we solve the problems of Irresponsible production and consumption Avoid non-recyclable packaging eat less meat to reduce heat promote sustainable farming afforestation organize community activities natural pest management organic farming agroforestry initiate waste segregation programs
Measure to be taken in our daily life to CONSERVE RESOURCES: Recycle : Separate your waste for recycling. Learn what can be recycled in your house and make sure to sort your waste accordingly.
Separate the household wastes as two they are: Wet waste or organic waste Dry waste or recyclables
Reuse : Try to use items again instead of throwing them away. Use reusable bags, containers, and bottles instead of disposable ones.
Use kitchen waste as fertilizer Waste water from kitchen for irrigating your garden. After washing use the waste water in the washrooms. Used cloths can be converted as door mates. Plastic waste can be converted as home decors.
Reduce : Use less of things. For instance, turn off lights when not needed, use less water, or buy only what you need.
For example: Prefer hand wash instead of machine wash. Limit the shower time or use bucket while bathing instead of shower Avoid using disposable things Use public transport system etc.
B y unplugging devices when not in use Use public transport Use electronic vehicles Prefer walking to short distance Use ecofriendly products Conserve water by fixing leaks
Mindful shopping :Before buying something new, consider if you really need it or if there's an alternative. Opt for quality items that last longer instead of disposable or single-use products.
