RETRANS SOP

EQUIPMENT:

□ Two OE-254 per radio
□ Two 1523s per NET
□ Two to five power amps (Based on mission requirement)
□ Two ANCDs w/ 3 fill cables
□ 3-5 RT-1523 (One to use for radio checks so you don’t have to break down
retrans)
□ Battery boxes(One per radio to hold fill)
□ Dog bones
□ Hand MICS (One per radio plus extra)
□ Dagger

NOTE: BRING EXTRA STUFF , THINGS BREAK!!

ESSENTIALS:

□ 3 MRE’s per person per day
□ 1 fuel can w/fuel per day
□ 5 gallons of water for every 2 Soldiers per day
□ All BII to include spare tire if possible
□ Tent lighting, 550 cord, chem lights, dry eraseboard


PCC/PCI:
□ Layout equipment
□ Inspect equipment according to above check list and inventory
□ Set up retrans in motorpool and conduct a mini COMMEX
□ Tear down equipment and load in accordance with BDE/BN’s load plan
□ Replace and fix all deficiencies
□ Top off all fuel and water cans
□ Conduct convoy commo checks with security element and report to higher
□ Standby for movement

ONE DUAL NET RETRANS OFFSET NET IDS

STEP ONE: FILL ALL RADIOS, MAKE SURE TIME IS RIGHT USING THE
DAGGER

NOTE: DISTANT STATION NET ID WILL BE LOADED ON TOP RADIO (A).
TRANSMISSION IS ALWAYS RELAYED OUT OF THE (A) RADIO



STEP TWO: SET UP ONE OE-254 AND HOOK THE COAX CABLE UP TO THE
POWER AMP AND DO A RADIO CHECK WITH DISTANT STATION

STEP THREE: SWITCH THE COAX CABLE TO THE EXTERNAL POWER AMP
AND DO A RADIO CHECK WITH THE STATION YOUR RETRANSING FOR

NOTE: ONCE THE RADIO CHECKS ARE COMPLETE SET UP THE OTHER
OE-254

STEP FOUR: ENSURE THAT THE RIGHT NET ID’S ARE IN THE RIGHT RADIO

STEP FIVE: CONNECT THE DOG BONE TO THE AUD/DATA PORT OF YOUR A
RADIO AND THE SAME PORT ON YOUR B RADIO

STEP SIX: SWITCH THE SELECTOR SWITCH TO RXMT ON BOTH RADIO’S

NOTE: ENSURE YOU CONNECT IT TO THE RIGHT RADIO I.E. BOTTOM
RADIO IS YOUR “A” RADIO. YOUR CABLE WILL SAY “A” AND “B” ON IT.


STEP SIX: TAKE YOUR EXTRA RADIO AND LOAD IT WITH ONE OF THE NET
ID’S AND DO A LOOP BACK TEST. KEY THE H-250 AND DO A RADIO CHECK
WITH THE HIGHER ELEMENT

NOTE: WHEN RUNNING OFF VEHICLE BATTERIES WITH ONE RETRANS
SYSTEM ENSURE YOU START YOUR VEHICLE EVERY 3 HOURS. TWO
STACKS START THE VEHICLE EVERY 2 HOURS. MAKE SURE YOU PUT
YOUR RADIOS IN STAND BYE AND TURN OFF VAA AND EXTERNAL
POWER AMP. START VEHICLE, TURN ON EQUIPMENT AND THEN
VERIFY YOUR SETTINGS.


SUBJECT: SAME CHANNEL PUSH

NOTE: REPEAT STEPS ONE THRU THREE

STEP FOUR: ENSURE THAT THE SAME NET ID’S ARE IN BOTH RADIO’S

STEP FIVE: CONNECT THE DOG BONE TO THE AUD/DATA PORT OF YOUR A
RADIO AND THE SAME PORT ON YOUR B RADIO

STEP SIX: YOU MUST PUT THE RADIO’S IN RXMT BEFORE YOU CAN
SELECT THE RIGHT DATA


STEP SEVEN: AFTER YOU PUT THE RADIO’S IN RXMT GO TO YOUR “A”
RADIO PUSH THE # 4 BUTTON (DATA) THEN PRESS THE # 7 BUTTON (CHG)
TILL YOU SEE ESIP RXMT RX

STEP EIGHT: ON YOUR TOP RADIO (B) PUSH THE # 4 BUTTON (DATA) THEN
PRESS THE # 7 BUTTON (CHG) TILL YOU SEE ESIP RXMT TX

NOTE: YOU WILL NOT SEE ESIP RXMT RX OR TX UNLESS YOU’RE IN
RXMT MODE!!

NOTE: WHEN YOU START THE VEHICLE AND YOU TURN ON ALL THE
EQUIPMENT, AGAIN YOU MUST CHANGE THE SETTINGS BACK TO ESIP
RXMT RX AND ESIP RXMT TX. BOTH RADIO’S WILL BE ON ESIP RXMT
TX IF YOU DON’T AND YOU WILL NOT BE RETRANSING!!
