Retailers relies on wholesales to buy stocks and it’s
challenging for them as trust and credibility issues
often crop. Plus, visiting wholesalers frequently is
time-consuming and results in a lot of expenditure.
For sellers, the traditional options limited them to either
their existing network of buyers or footfall in their
business.

I conducted fve user interviews with people who run a
small or medium enterprise, especially in tier II and tier
III cities in India, which I then turned into empathy
maps to better understand the target user and their
needs. I had a couple of assumptions about them, like
they don’t have enough knowledge about how online
business works or that they want to stick with traditional
offine businesses.
User research: summary
But when I talked with them, I found out that they are
pretty knowledgeable about online business, and they
do want to expand their business all over India. What
they lack is a good product that can fulfll their
business needs and help them reach their true
potential.

Ideation
I did an ideation exercise to come up with ideas
for how to address gaps identifed in the
competitive audit.
My focus was specifcally on easily catalog
creation and providing accessibility features.
REVISED GOAL STATEMENT
Our Risor app will let users easily create, update and share their online catalog
which will affect small wholesalers who want to save their time and earn a lot of money online
by providing a usable catalog maker that have the capabilities to publish products in social media also
We will measure effectiveness by tracking how many sellers created their catalog in the app
perform specifc actions (what)product (what)
describe who the action will affect (who)
describe how the action will positively affect users (why)
describe how you will measure the impact

Usability study: fndings

Summer 2023
LACK BASIC KEY INPUTS
The add product form is too basic
and lacks many key features, like
how to add different variants,
minimum order quantity, categories,
and lot size, to name a few.
NO OPTION TO SHARE PRODUCTS
There was no way for sellers to share
their products on various social
media channels as well as on
WhatsApp. It was also one of the
problem statements we found earlier.
HOW TO FIND NEW SELLERS
We found that sellers who also buy
products on the app need a way to
see other sellers (manufacturers,
distributors, etc.) to negotiate and
break out a good deal.
MISSING PRODUCT DETAIL VIEW
A product detail view is crucial to
seeing the product in greater detail
as well as checking out all the
different variants of that product to
make a buying decision.

CRITICAL THINKING
FIND NEW SELLERS EASILY
We changed the Status screen
to the Home screen, which is
basically a feed page.
Here, buyers/sellers can see the
status updates, products, and
likes from people that they follow,
as well as fnd popular stores,
top categories, and best sellers
across Risor.
OPTION TO SHARE PRODUCTS
As soon as sellers publish their
products on Risor, we show them
a dialog box where they can
further share their products on
various social media channels.
Additionally, we also provided
them an option to add their
Facebook account to our app
and select the particular page
where they automatically want
to publish their products.

RISOR STYLE GUIDE Typography
AaAa
The white background keeps
people on an app or website for a
relatively long time, is easy to
maintain, and gives a calm feeling.
The color blue gives a corporate
feel, and people relate it to
something clickable.
I didn't want to use a pure black-on-
white background, so I used a
charcoal color.
The choice of font, Avant Garde, was
based on its geometrical shapes,
which give it a technological feel.
The name Avant Garde aptly fts
Risor, as Risor also favors new and
experimental ideas and methods. ITC Avant Garde Gothic Std Book

RISOR
Our target users shared that the design was intuitive to
navigate through, more engaging with the images,
and demonstrated a clear visual hierarchy.
Users shared that the app made B2B e-commerce like
a child’s play. One quote from peer feedback:
“To create something that is actually easy to use and
empower people especially people, who are
historically underrepresented, are truly phenomenal. ”
Impact
While designing the Risor app, I learned that the frst
ideas for the app are only the beginning of the
process. Usability studies and peer feedback
infuenced each iteration of the app’s design.
Even though the problem I was trying to solve was a
big one, diligently going through each step of the
design process and aligning with specifc user needs
helped me come up with solutions that were both
feasible and useful.
