Robert Frost’s writing style
His style can best be described as a mix of 19th century
tradition combined with 20th century contemporary
technique.
Frost was a modern poet who liked to use conventional form
metrics combined with New England vernacular.
His writing style changed gradually over time, becoming more
abstract in his later years. Many experts believe this was largely
due to his religious and political beliefs.
“I’M NOT CONFUSED. I’M JUST WELL MIXED.” – ROBERT FROST
Frost used many autobiographical details in his work, often describing
He never imitates the current trends.
He was never known as an experimental poet, but rather used traditional
techniques to describe the world as he saw it, often in simple detail.
Many of R. Frost’s poems are capable of a symbolic interpretation.
mundane details of New England life.
“This man has the good sense to speak
naturally and to pain the thing, the thing
as he sees it.”
Ezra Pound
Frost expresses his ideas in a simple language. His aim is to delight. He hate to see the
poets using poetry as a vehicle for expressing frustation and disgust.
Frost gives dramatic situation or twist to most of his poems.
Nature is the dominant theme in his poetry. He is not a nature poet in the tradition of
romantics. Frost love of nature is more comprehensive, many sided than that of
WordsWorth. In Frost work nature can be both generous and malicious.
Best example is "stopping by woods on a snowy evening" .
There is situation,climax and resolution.
