BLOG POST Robin Hood Army is a volunteer-based organization that collects excess food from restaurants and distributes it to the less fortunate. A group of six, it has grown to 1,000 volunteers spread across 18 cities, who have served more than 2.5 lakh people. The idea came from  when I saw this organization, Refood – which redistributes excess food to the needy through volunteers. The setup revolves around decentralization. Small teams, mostly young professionals, become responsible for specific areas; they pitch local restaurants, convince them to donate surplus food, identify clusters of people in need — such as the homeless and orphanages — and carry out weekly distributions. In India millions of people don’t get one serving. Hunger kills more people each year than AIDS, Malaria, and terrorism combined. Every 10 seconds, a child dies from hunger. One in every eight people sleeps hungry at night. Lockdown or not, the lives of lakhs of people are still affected, and bringing food to the table has become a task. It’s time we all stand together and put an effort to make sure no one has to sleep hungry. Are you looking for a genuine platform to help people? Then your search ends here!
