What is COPE? COPE stands for Committee on Publication Ethics COPE is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting integrity in research and its publication COPE is a forum for editors of peer-reviewed journals to discuss issues related to the integrity of the scientific record.
History COPE was founded in 1997 by a group of medical journal editors concerned about publication misconduct E.g. plagiarism attempted, passing off fraudulent data, unethical research, breaches of confidentiality, etc.
Role of COPE Its aim is to provide thought leadership on publication ethics and practical resources to educate and support editors and publishers. Membership signals to authors, reviewers and readers that a journal in research publishing and that it is in direct alignment with COPE’s recommended core practices for journals and publishers.
