Understanding the TPACK Framework and Its Implication in English Language Education Ms. Saba Khatoon Assistant Professor Department of Education and Training Maulana Azad National Urdu University Gachibowli, Hyderabad-32
Introduction
What is TPACK? Technological Pedagogical-And Content Knowledge (TPACK) is a way of teaching that helps teachers assimilate technology into the teaching-learning process. To employ this method, a teacher should have the knowledge of what to be taught (content), how to teach that content (teaching strategies/pedagogy), and what available technology can be used (awareness of the technology).
THE BACKGROUND This model is based on Shulman's (1986) work in which he argued that teaching strategies (pedagogy) and subject knowledge (content) cannot be seen separately but rather clubbed to give teachers the essential tools with which they design and deliver the content in the class and assess the students. Through the amalgamation of these elements, teachers can design curricular experiences using technological tools and hence improve the learning experiences of the students.

Implications in English language education Lim et al (2021) retrieved relevant articles from Scopus and ProQuest databases to investigate the TPACK implication in English Language Education. The study was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020’s framework. Fourteen articles were retrieved and included in their systematic literature review by the researchers.
Findings The researcher found that experienced teachers were of significantly higher scores in Pedagogical Knowledge and Pedagogical Content Knowledge while new teachers were of significantly higher scores in Technological Knowledge, Technological Content Knowledge, Technological Pedagogical Knowledge and TPACK.
conclusion With the integration of technology in today’s classrooms, teachers have looked for new ways to exemplify and represent the content to the learners. To apply the TPACK framework, teachers should have knowledge of the content, teaching strategies, and technological awareness. The TPACK model thus becomes an effective way to consider how teachers could blend educational technology into the classroom. Various research studies proved that English language instructors have adequate knowledge of the TPACK framework, and they also deploy this model in language classrooms to yield desired learning outcomes from the learners. In India, Teacher education programmes should acquaint the trainee teachers with knowledge and deployment of the TPACK framework across the disciplines to make the teaching-learning process constructive, interactive, and more productive to achieve the desired learning outcomes.
