Explain the effects of hazards encountered by carpenters in the workplace Create signages that promote safety practices in the job site Display concern for others by practicing safety measures in the workplace Objectives
PRETEST Direction: Write SAFE if the statement is a safety practice that should be observed in the job site and NOT SAFE if the statement is not a safety practice that should never be observed in the job site. Never attempt a project if you are drinking alcohol or taking medications that can cause drowsiness or lack of concentration. Electric tools should be plugged in when adjusting or attaching accessories. Modify tools to unlock the limits of that tool. Remove all jewelry, including rings and watches, and tie up long hair.
PRETEST 5. Always work on the project even if you are tired. 6. Don't wear loose-fitting clothing. Baggy sleeves, neckties, scarves and open shirts and sweaters can get caught in tools and machinery. 7. Keep emergency numbers near a workshop phone. 8. Do not wear PPE if you feel uncomfortable. 9. Always work alone on a project for more income. 10. Do not work in a shop with a cluttered floor. It's too easy to trip or slip.
Follow up Questions: What events were depicted in the videos? What are the hazards carpenters encounter in the workplace? What are the effects of these hazards on carpenters? What do you think are the causes of these accidents? How can these accidents be prevented?
Group Activity Lets Divide The Class Into 3 Groups
Each group will brainstorm about different safety practices on the job site. Each group will formulate and promote 7 safety practices in the workplace. Presentation of answers will follow.
GUIDE QUESTIONS “Safety First“ / “Safety is our No.1 Priority” is one of the most recognizable taglines in promoting safety in the workplace. In your own understanding, what is the meaning of these taglines? Why should safety practices be observed on the job site? Do you think PPE can guarantee your safety when working in the job site? What do you think is the main reason behind accidents on the job site?

Baggy sleeves, neckties, scarves and open shirts and sweaters can get caught in tools and machinery. 4. Remove all jewelry, including rings and watches, and tie up long hair. 5. Don't work alone if you cannot readily summon help if there is an accident. 6. Electric tools should be unplugged when adjusting or attaching accessories.
Safety Practices on the Job Site 7. Do not work in a shop with a cluttered floor. It's too easy to trip or slip. 8. For best results-and safer fingers and hands-install proper lighting. 9. Never disregard hazard warnings or eliminate or override carpentry tool's safety features. 10. Always read the labels before using cleaning solvents, finishing products and other chemicals. 11. Check to make sure the electrical service to the workshop is sufficient to operate all tools and machinery safely. 12. Never use a tool for a purpose other than what it is intended.
Application You were asked by your supervisor to operate a power tool that you have no knowledge of. You want to impress your supervisor as a newcomer on the job. What will you do? 2. Your coworkers are very experienced workers with more than 10 years of work experience. They told you that wearing your hard hat and PPE is very uncomfortable especially during the hot weather. According to them, you can always remove it to work more comfortably. What will you tell them?
Application 3. Your friends invited you to a “Tagay Session” during your midafternoon work break. How will you respond to your friends?
