SCALING UP FAMILY PLANNING (E N GENDER HEALTH) ADEIGBE OREOLUWA ESTHER PG/23/0254 DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH BABCOCK UNIVERSITY

INTRODUCTION Contraceptive use in Nigeria has been consistently low(17% using the modern method in 2018) despite its benefits in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality by giving mothers enough time to recover from previous pregnancies, promoting economic growth, etc. (Austin 2015). According to a UNICEF survey 2021 only 4 in every 10 women use contraceptives. Despite the desperate efforts of the Nigerian government to increase family planning uptake, contraceptive use is still low due to desire for more children, partner disapproval, fear of side effect, religion ( Durowade et.al 2017; Akamike et.al 2020).

INTRODUCTION The Engender Family Planning Health Program targets population include; Women of reproductive age (15-49) according to WHO and their spouses, A dolescents and persons with disabilities with a special focus on underserved populations, that is those living in rural communities.

INTRODUCTION This program was introduced to Tanzania in Feb 2020 and the family planning services were distributed in 8 regions across the mainland of Tanzania and all 5 regions of Zanzibar.

DESCRIPTION OF SUFP The SUFP program focused on underserved populations especially young persons and persons living with disabilities. The program also trained community health workers and service providers to identify cases of gender based violence and to use existing referral systems to direct client to appropriate care and support.

WEAKNESS OF SUFP Limited financing and resources may impede the program's expansion and viability, limiting its capacity to serve all target populations and provide full services. The 1 st and 4 th quarter of 2020 coincided with the peaks of COVID-19 infections and the general election in the country thereby reducing the number of clients reached out through the outreach programs in the 1 st year of SUFP’s commencement.

DESCRIPTION OF CHOSEN PROJECT Attach any graphics for the program

SUFP PROJECT The project was chosen because it focuses on underserved communities like Oko mi community in Ado Odo-Ota LGA, Ogun where being pregnant is a risk due to lack of accessibility, affordability and availability of health facilities according to the members of the community in punch news 2021. The program will allow couples and young persons to be able to have sexual intercourse without the fear of dying due to childbirth.

IMPACT OF SUFP The program helped 1,877,901 clients access contraceptive care, 844,011 received GBV screening and 25,064 received referrals for post care services. It also supported 14,900 people with disabilities to get a contraceptive method of their choice
