Schizophrenia and Deadpool

Psychology Basis

Schizophrenia is defined as Distorted perceptions of thoughts and behaviors Inappropriate emotions or reactions Confusion

Four Subtypes of Schizophrenia Paranoid Delusions of grandeur or persecutions, often accompanied by hallucinations Catatonic Non reaction to the environment, extreme negativism, or wild agitation

Four Subtypes of Schizophrenia Disorganized Disorganized speech, flattened or inappropriate emotion Undifferentiated Varied symptoms between the first three subtypes

Media

Deadpool (Wade Wilson) A character from Marvel Comics Diagnosed with terminal cancer throughout his entire body Assassin Becomes part of The Weapon X program and is turned into an mutilated immortal assassin Is schizophrenic because of tragic life

Connection

Connection He is the only comic book character that knows he is in a comic book Is known to have intense and sometimes sarcastic conversations with himself Over reactive/inappropriate emotions and reactions Ones killed a man for saying the prequel Star Wars movies were better than the original trilogy movies

Connection Always paranoid that the people that turned him into Deadpool (The Canadian Government) is after him, so he basically kills anybody that is too close for him to feel comfortable He is his own best friend in the most twisted sort of way

Connection/Validity

My Take

My Take Deadpool is the greatest (my opinion) and most tragic comic book character. He is constantly fighting within himself whether he can ever be safe or normal. He can’t have a normal relationship with anybody because not only of his dismembered face and body, but because he is also always conversing with himself in the most inappropriate settings; he thinks everybody else can hear him talking to himself.

My Take This is a very illustrative way that psychology is used n media. Unfortunately, the movie Deadpool will not feature any schizophrenia, so to see any of the real and tragic Deadpool, look to the comics.
