APPEARANCE AND USES OF SUSPENSIONS

TEACHER SAY LEARNER SAY “CLASS” “YES” “1, 2, 3” “Eyes on you” “Are you ready kids?” “Aye, Aye Captain” “Class, Class” “Yes, Yes” “Give me 1” “Clap 1 time” “Give me 2” “Clap 2 times” “Give me 3” “Clap 3 times” DRILL:

TEACHER SAY LEARNER SAY “Macaroni and Cheese” “Everybody freeze” “A mistake is a chance” “To try harder” “Hocus Focus” “Everybody focus” “Hands on top” “Everybody stop”

REVIEW: What are the factors affecting the solubility of solute in solvent?

Mixture of soil and water

“Today we will find out what is the appearance of a suspension and tell its uses.”

Unlocking of Difficulties https://wordwall.net/resource/76455342/science-6-mixtures

“And now, we will do activities that will allow us to describe the appearance and the uses of suspensions.”

What do we need? Group 1: ½ cup flour 1 clear glass of water Group 2: 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 3 tablespoon of oil, 1 clear glass. Group 3: ½ cup of sand 1 glass of water Additional: Milk of Magnesia and Cotrimoxazole Mixture

What to remember? S – Speak your ideas. C – Carefully follow directions given by the teacher. I – Investigate the activity very well. E – Enhance your understanding. N – No to unnecessary noise. C – Cooperate with your group mates. E – Enjoy!

What to do? Group 1: Prepare a half cup of flour, 1 clear glass of water. Pour the flour into the glass of water. Stir the flour mix with the water. Wait for 2 – 3 minutes and observe. Record the appearance of the mixture.

What to do? Group 2: Put the oil in the glass and pour the vinegar after. Stir with a stick until it becomes a mixture. Wait for 2 – 3 minutes and observe. Record the appearance of the mixture.

What to do? Group 3: Add the sand to the water then stir the mixture well. Let the mixture stand for a few minutes. Observe and record what happen to the sand. Describe the appearance of the mixture.

Time to answer! Based from the activity you have done, answer the following questions from the metacards that the teacher will be providing. Each group will use 1 device only to record their group answers in the our Seesaw Journal. Bring out 1 device from your group. It can be a mobile phone, tablet or ipad . Open the SeeSaw apps in your device or go to www.seesaw.com . Key in the code that the teacher will provide.

You will be given 5 minutes to answer the questions on the metacards .

Presentation of Group Output

Explanation: As you mix the solute particles in a solvent, what did you make? 2. How did the solute particles behave when mixed with the solvent?

Explanation: 3. Describe the appearance of the mixture you have done? 4. What kind of mixture did you make?

Explanation: 5. Describe the appearance of suspensions. 6. Tell other examples of suspensions. 7. Give the uses of these suspensions.

Elaboration:

Let’s Generalize: 1. What is a suspension? A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture, which has particles that do not completely dissolve and settle down at the bottom.

Let’s Generalize: 2. Describe the appearance of suspension. Suspensions are mixtures that are non-uniform in color and will sometimes look cloudy or murky.

Let’s Generalize: 3. What are the uses of suspensions? Suspensions like gaw-gaw mixture is used as thickening agent in food, mixture of oil and vinegar can be used for vegetable salads, while some liquid medicines like milk of magnesia can be used as laxative and cotrimoxazole is used as antibiotic.

Valuing: Nathaniel had a fever. His sister Atasha was instructed by their father to give him a medicine. What should she observe and follow in order to avoid over dosage and poisoning ?

Assessment of Learning: Quiz: Bring out your mobile phones, tablets or ipads and open the Quizizz Application or visit www.google.com and go to www.Quizizz.com . Once you’re on the dashboard of the apps, key in or enter the code that the teacher will provide for you.

Assignment: To access your assignment, o pen your SeeSaw Application on your mobile phones, tablets or ipads , or visit the website www.SeeSaw.com . Enter the code that the teacher will provide for your access.
