INDEX Registers in the laboratory Accidents and first aid Precautions Reference

REGISTERS IN THE LABORATORY Maintenance of a proper record of the apparatus, materials etc in the laboratory is one of the important duties of the science master. For this after receipt of articles they should be thoroughly checked and then they be entered in the stock register. Separate stock register be maintained for consumable and non-consumable item, permanent articles, glass articles etc .

The records to be maintained in the laboratory are Consumable stock register Permanent stock register Order register Breakable stock register Requirement registe r

Permanent stock register It include all articles which are non breakable or non consumable Eg : Test tube racks Wooden stands Microscope Telescope Spectrometers Working and still model s

The list contains Date of purchase Number or quantity Name of company etc

Specimen of Permanent Stock register SI NO MONTH & DATE PARTIULERS DEATIS OF COMPANY RATE NO OF BREAKABLE ARTICLES NO ON HAND TEACHER’ S SIGNAUTURE

2.Breakable stock register It include the articles of glass ware like Flasks Test tube Beakers Pipettes Burettes Funnels

Specimen of stock register of breakables SI NO MONTH & DATE RECEIPT DEATIS OF BROKEN ITEMS HOW THE BREAKAGE TOOK PLACE BALANCE TEACHER SIGNAUTURE QUANTITY RATE QUATITY DATE

3.Consumable stock register Chemicals Acids Alcohols Distilled water Potassium permanganate etc It includes

Specimen of Consumable stock register SI NO MONTH & DATE PARTICULERS OF THE COMPANY BILL NUMBER RECEIPT CONSUMED / WRITTEN OFF HOW THE BREAKAGE TOOK PLACE BALANCE TEACHER’S SIGNAUTURE VALUE AS ON 31-03-20.. QTY RATE AMOUNT QTY DATE

4.Order Register Order sent for the purchase of new apparatus Chemicals SI NO MONTH & DATE PARTICULERS RECEIPT DEATIS OF CONSUMED ITEMS HOW THE BREAKAGE TOOK PLACE BALANCE TEACHER SIGNAUTURE REMARK QTY RATE AMOUNT QTY DATE

5.Requirement Register This includes items required for this priority should be given to those of immediate need. The most appropriate method of collecting suggestions for new resources for the science staff, is to note the ideas in a required register

Accidents and First aids in the Laboratory Accidents may happen in the laboratory.so it is necessary to keep first aid kit. First aid kit contain Acetic acid Bandages Carbolic acid Cotton dressing gauze Eye dropper Forceps

Glycerin Milk of Magnesia Plaster Plucker Scissors Sodium carbonate Tincture iodine Vaseline It would be better to display a chart depicting the accidents that are usual in the laboratory and remedies.

The common accidents and First aid in the laboratory are Wounds: Apply cotton dipped in tincture iodine. Burns from Fire: Cover the portion with linen dipped in Vaseline. Burns from Acids : Wash with plenty of water and then with 1% sodium bicarbonate solution. Burns from Alkalies : Wash with plenty of water and then with weak vinegar or lime juice.

5 . Burns from Phosphorous : Wash with plenty of water and then cover with cotton dipped in silver nitrate. 6. Injuries to eye :It should be dealt with by doctor. 7. Acid in eye : The eye should be opened and closed under water. It should be washed with 15 solution of sodium bicarbonate.

Alkali in Eye : The Eye should be thoroughly washed with water and then with a solution of 1% of Boric acid. Electric shock : Switch of the electrical supply Beat with a wooded stick Admit to a hospital

Precautions while doing Laboratory Practical Science laboratory work involves dangers and hazards if one is not careful and cautious. Proper care has to be exercised while engaging laboratory work. The important precautions are Laboratory glass ware must be never used as drinking vessels. Solutions split on the bench or floor should be cleaned up immediately.

3 . Concentrated solutions should be diluted before they are poured down the sink. 4. Do not point to the other people with a test tube. 5.Do not look in to the mouth of a test tube while heating its content. 6. Do not sniff at toxic materials. 7. For constant boiling chips of marble piece should be placed in the liquid under boil. 8. Always use test tube holders while heating materials in a test tube.

9. Chemicals should be labeled properly 10. Rarely used chemicals should be kept in separate shelves. 11. Safety measures like fire extinguisher should be ensured. 12. Turn of the gas valve after use. 13. Use over coats and gloves while handling dangerous chemicals.
