Building on the edge of the city:
Transforming the building into a
viewpoint over its immediate
surroundings.
SITEPLAN
The structure is concentrated
in central area to avoid
interference with movement
of vehicles and people
It has a total area of 8,870
m2 spread over two levels
Both infrastructure offered
intermodality with the train
station as well as the
connecting the two
neighbourhoods located on
either side of the rail way
line.

GROUNDFLOORPLAN
The lower level houses the
bus bays ( loading bays) ,
vehicle circulation, the bus
lanes and turning areas
It has a total of 29 bays
designed for intercity and
metropolitan buses.
FIRSTFLOORPLAN
The upper level, covering more
than 2,700 m2 is dedicated to
passenger
services and the station's daily
() o.oc.c:AOo.o
management.
To the south, a large terrace to
which the cafeteria opens is
enjoyed by both users and
residents of Santiago.
To the north, the services are
grouped into low bodies that
protrude from the perimeter glass
enclosure.
CIRCULATION
The circulation of the buses is
organized in a clock\vise
direction as the doors for

side.

SECTIONS
The loading bays are arranged
around a central platform that
optimizes the routes of passengers
who access from the upper floor
through stairs and elevators located

in the central area
On both sides there are two largeb
overhangs that cover the loading bays
from inclement weather
protecting the waiting and standing
spaces
The large roof plane is perforated

spaces.
ELEVATIONS
Avoid excessive light
contrasts, since the light
comes from several
directions and not just one.
The extension of the roof
avoids direct solar radiation
inside the terminal, avoiding
the need to resort to the use
of the planned air
conditioning systems on
many days a yearand these
overhangs guarantees the
areas of loading bays are
protected rain.

SWOTANALYSIS
Strength:
Control of natural light
Relationship with immediate and distant surrounding Accessibility with
facilities
Weakness:
Chaotic: public transport concentrated in one place
Opportunity :
Improve internal organization of the bus tenninal Potential for future
developments
threat: Road congestion: high risk of accident
INFERENCE
Control of natural light:
Reduce electricity consumption for
artificial lighting when outdoor
conditions are favorable.
The extension of the roof for rain
protection.

the

volumes that carry a canopy. The eaves
connect the new and built with the

The composition derives from thinking
about the logic of arranging elements
(platforms, pavilions,
walls, benches, canopy, trees .. .) and
their purpose. The idea is to use the same
elements for different purposes while
reducing the number
of elements and surfaces in the
space. The platform is both a bench
bi
and a terrace, the eaves are both a roof
and a tree canopy as are the
-----=
wall's partitions and
structure.
The three cubic pavilions are of
similar volume and different
purposes. Looking from east to west
in the first pavilion there is a
reception of passengers with ticket
sales, information desk, waiting room,
toilets, and administration. In the
middle cube, there is a coffee bar, and
in the west, there is a bakery, a
multipurpose bar, a kiosk, and a
technical space.
The found trees in the crevices
emphasize the approaches to the
ramps, platforms, complete the
ambiance of the terraces in front
of the bar or waiting room, while
intuitively creating a welcoming
effect.
The roof was treated as a funnel,
covered with sheet metal,
occasionally cut by penetrations
intended for the canopy of
existing and new trees, with a
continuous indentation at the
lowest elevation.
The existing bus station
in SLOVONSKI BROD 1s 1n a
logical location in the city. It is
situated along Petra Svacica Street
(City Avenue) and the railway
station with an overpass that
connects the north and south sides
of the city.
The walls towards the Petra Svacica
Street, i.e. the full surfaces of the
pavilion towards the platforms, are
a system with an external face made
of COR-TEN steel. Glass fa9ade
dominates on the north side towards
. the platforms, while on the south
·they appear as occasional
penetrations in the rhythmic
alternation of walls.

SWOTANALYSIS
•STRENGTH: The existing bus station in Slavonski Brodis in a logical
location in the city. It is situated along Petra Svacica Street (City Avenue) and the
railway station with an overpass that connects the north and south sides of the
city.
•WEAKNESS: Unfortunately, the existing building, a building in the manner of
peaceful and decent architecture, only partially gives an indication of the former
potential due to the intertwined property and legal relations. Due to the
impossibility of renovation and reconstruction of the existing building as a
whole, it drove the architects to opt for other options.
•OPPORTUNITY: Connects the two broad sides of the city, the north and the
south.
•THREAT: Train station.
