THE BEGINNING……… First in India in 1853 from Bombay to Thane 1853 first railway train journeyed distance of 22 miles between Bombay to Thane Originally, operated by private companies Englishman 1925-1950 GOI took over the all the private railways companies

ABOUT INDIAN RAILWAYS………… Indian Railway is more then 150 years old. It is largest Railway system in world under one management. It is a life line of our country. It id biggest employer in the world(14,06,430) No strike in last 30 years in spite of 17 lakh workers.

INTRODUCTION Indian Railway Passenger services, in today’s world find themselves in an environment that is focused on understanding the role and importance of service quality. Not oblivious to the need for adaptation to serve the interests of the passengers, in terms of greater responsiveness, responsibility, accountability and increased expectations, the Indian Railway Passenger services are being pressurized to shift their focus from quantitative expansion, to an emphasis on quality. Sealdah division was formed on 14.04.1952 after reorganisation of railways, The main line started in the year of 1869(sealdah to Ranaghat was opened far back on 29.09.1862).The original station , designed by Mr. Walter Glanville was built in 1869. This was the main station. Subsequently as Calcutta spread, large areas south of the became suburbanised and it became necessary to provide these new areas with railway communication. The lines radiating to Diamond Harbour Source: Jivan Marg : 15.10.1952 .

STUDY AREA The south section consisting of sealdah south terminal acts as the terminal for local trains plying between Kolkata, Diamond harbour, Budge budge, Canning and Namkhana. Sealdah Railway station was started in 1869. The part of network under this division was a part of the Eastern Bengal Railway Company was registered in 1857 to establish railroad connection between Calcutta and Eastern part of undivided Bengal beyond Ganges( Padma) . First section was completed in January 1962 from Calcutta to Champahati. By May 1862 this extended to Port Canning. Ranaghat was connected in September 1862. After this for the next 20 years there was no extension. Between 1882-1884 Ranaghat , Dum Dum , Bongaon and Diamond Harbour was completed. State took over in 01.07.1884. Dum Dum - Chitpore Goods line was connected in 1914. Shantipur branch opened in 1924. Baruipur - Lakshikantapur section was opened in 1928.My study area Sealdah- Lakshmikantapur link via baruipur There line was very popular station (Ballygaung Jn, Sonarpur Jn, Dakshin Barasat). In this route including up and down the frequency of trains is 52. The main amenities of this station are-fan, light, washroom ,waiting room, police ,ATM, handicapped facility, medical facility ,station name board ,time table board, transport available near the station.

This is the route map of south eastern railway at first in the ballygang section the line is divided in to two route on this towards budge budge and one is sonsrpur jn ,one line is canning. one is extended to baruipur .again id divided in two way at baruipur jn . on is diamond harbour and one is lakshmikantapur.from baruipur to namkhana . From sealdah to diamond harbour line we selected to 7 station for my study. Sealdah to Budge Budge—26km Sealdah to Dimond Harbour—60km Sealdah to Namkhana—109km ROUTE MAP BASED ON TOPOLOGY

To measure the platform wise amenities importance index. .To examine the station wise and amenities wise satisfaction index of the passengers. To find out the overall customer satisfaction index. OBJECTIVE

METHODOLOGY METHOD Mean Importance Index to measure the level of importance of amenities. Mean Satisfaction Index to examine the level of customer satisfaction on platform amenities. Customer Satisfaction Index to evaluate the customer satisfaction.

RESEARCH PROBLEM For the upgredetion of the railway service quality and assessment of the present platform amenities is required. There for present research work is devoted to examine the level of customer satisfaction and based on it level of find out the areas of further improvement.

General problem : Railway signal problems in the rainy season. Shops occupy a lot of space in the platform arena. Toilets, seating area are not clean. Announcements are not clear . Problems of sitting arrangements. Problems of other facility like Internet facility, book stall, medical facility Security problem. Station Specific problems : Signaling problems in the Sealdah station . Shops occupied station Sealdah, Ballygang Announcement problem of station jaynagar . Security problems in the Surjapur station Seating area not clean in jaynagar station. Seating arrangement problem in jaynagar station. .

FINEDINGS……. 1.We saw the previous picture Sealdah station improve is very first growth, but the infrastructure is not very develop in same speed. In day to day the no of passenger is increase but no of trains is not increase. It is a big problem . 2. The Sealdah to jaynagar route the total no of trains is not very much high, but in office time (9:00 am-10:00 am and 5:00 pm to 7 pm) a huge no of population travel by the train. In this time passenger is very mush suffered in the trains.
