Seasons and the position of the sun in the sky
a. Define seasons; b. explain axis, revolution, rotation; and c. describe the tilt of the earth to the length of day time
PHILIPPINES SEASON
Rotation it refers to an object’s spinning motion about its own axis. It takes 24 hours or one day for the earth to completely rotate around on its axis.
Revolution It refers to the movement of a planet around the sun. 1 revolution = 365 days or one year for the earth to move around the sun.
SEATWORK: Directions: Look at each picture, explain what is in the picture and write which season it represent.
Hemisphere receives more solar rays experience warmer temperature. The hemisphere that receives lesser solar rays will experience cooler temperature.
The first day of summer is marked by the summer solstice which occurred during June 21 and June 22. And the first day of winter is marked by the winter solstice which occurred during December 21 or 22.
April to august different countries located north of the equator will received direct rays and experience summer.
Southern hemisphere during the month of June receives lesser direct rays from the sun. It experiences a shorter period of day time and a longer period of night time.
The longer daytime will cause the surface of the earth to heat up for a longer period. The shorter period of nights will cause a lesser time of the earth’s surface to cool down.
Countries in north hemisphere- this area experience the time of cold, countries located in the temperate zone will experience winter. And countries located in the tropical region, such as the Philippines will experience the cold season
In the month of December it is the south pole that tilted toward the sun, it is the southern hemisphere that receives more directories from the sun.
The first day of spring is marked by the vernal equinox which happens on march 21 or 22. It is spring in the north and autumn in the south. The first day of autumn season is marked by the autumnal equinox which happens on September 21 or 22. It is autumn in the north and spring in the south.
