The current Secretary of State of Illinois is Jesse White. Jesse White is a democratic and joined the
office in 1999. The responsibilities of Secretary of State of Illinois include keeping laws, state records,

Search Illinois Corporation Registry :
In this guide we will describe you how to search Corporations, Limited Partnerships (LP), Limited
Liability Companies (LLC), and Limited Liability Partnerships (LLP) for availability in SOS website of
Illinois state. To search for the entities that are registered with the Secretary of State Office of Illinois,
read further to get a clear illustration that will help you with your search.
The search has 3 steps that you must follow.
In step 1, you choose whether you are searching for
Corporate and LLC (Default Option)
Corporate
LLC
In step 2, you choose the method for your search from
Name
Keyword
Partial Word
File Number
In step 3, you enter name, keyword, partial word or file number in the text field to match the option chosen from you in step 2.
Below steps illustrate assuming you have the business name handy. Follow these simple steps below to find details about any entity registered
with the Secretary of State of Illinois.
Step 1: Click here to start your search. You will find a page which looks something like this.
Step 2: Key-in the name in the text field under Step 3. Choose the ‘Corporate’ and ‘By Name’ options in Step 1 and Step 2 respectively.
Consider you want to search ‘Starbucks’. Key-in ‘starbucks’ in the business name field.
Step 3: Click on ‘Submit’ button to find a page that looks like the screenshot shown below
Step 4: Click the Corporation Name (‘STARBUCKS COFFEE COMPANY’ with file number ‘54815263’)
The page will display all details like file number, status of origin, date of organization / authorization etc.
Anytime during the search, you can click on the ‘Return to the Search Screen’ to start a new search. Click on the ‘Purchase Certificate of Good
Standing’ for purchasing a certificate of good standing.
