3. A hurricane is a type of storm . It causes buildings to be blown down and roads washed away.

4. What is a storm? A storm is a violent disturbance in the atmosphere. Storms involve sudden changes in air pressure, which causes rapid air movement and often precipitation.

5. Winter Storms Occur in winter Most precipitation is in the form of snow which blocks roads and traps people in their homes. Extreme cold can cause water pipes to burst.

6. Thunderstorms Occur in summer and spring Localized storm, often accompanied by heavy precipitation (rain and hail), thunder and dangerous lightning. Occur when warm humid air rises rapidly forming dense thunderheads

15. Tornadoes When cold dry wind meet the warm humid air near the ground rising up. The colder denser air pushes the warm air up creating a low pressure area that draws surrounding air inward and up. This fast moving air rotates and rises forming a funnel.
