NATIONAL SECURITY OF PAKISTAN 2
“The weak and defenseless, in this imperfect world, invites aggression from others”. Security consists of not only military, but also political, economic, social, humanitarian, human rights and ecological aspects. 3
AIM TO ANALYZE CURRENT SECURITY SITUATION OF PAKISTAN. 4
INTRODUCTION Pakistan got independence from British occupation and separated from Hindu populated areas on the basis of religion , which Hindus have been opposing. That rift continues and both countries have fought few major wars apart from many subversive activities . Separation is still not complete as Kashmir, Sir Creek and Siachin remains disputed territory, for which both countries can go for a major war again. Arms race between Pakistan and India led to nuclear weapons which created further problems as US have been opposing and imposing number of restrictions on Pakistan . Biggest problem now is terrorism , which has put Pakistan in a state of war, and enemies have concealed in local population . Poor leadership resulted in weak institutions which in turn effected mental awareness, economy, education, poor industries specially microelectronics, law and order situation etc. Security aspects can be divided in two main spheres i.e. External Threats and in Internal Threats. 6
EXTERNAL THREATS Number of Embargos imposed by US on nuclear issue Open opposition by India on construction of CPEC Subversive activities through locals and refugees / agents from India Afghanistan USA and other countries. Water Wars with India Arms and Drugs smuggled from Afghanistan and India Foreign sponsored separatist organizations and political parties. Foreign sponsored media portraying negative image only Foreign sponsored sectarian movements / pressure groups / terrorists 7
INTERNAL THREATS Lack of Mental Awareness – To stand for good and resist the bad Instable and weak political leaders – Parties are self-projecting only Weak Institutes – Politicized departments have lost their credibility and effectiveness spec Police, Finance, Courts, Energy sector, Industry etc Religious/Sectarian/Ethnic Divide coupled with intolerance Poor and backward industry – Most common electronics are imported. Poverty and poor economy - Leading to crimes and social evils Terrorism – Adversely effecting development and economy as well mental peace Refugees – Increasing load on economy and security threats. More reliance on imports – National treasures gradually shifting out, leading to financial crisis. Over population – Increased problems of poverty, education, transportation, residence, health, economy etc. 8
RECOMMENDATIONS Collaborate with China not only in economy but also in defense, industry, power and education to neutralize gaps created due to sanctions of USA. Revised education system to promote skilled manpower that could work abroad. Creating political awareness in the masses to choose wisely and support the merit only Defining / Limiting role of political leaders and to eliminate interference in departments like Police, Courts etc Consistent national and external policies through permanent body of National Security Council Effective foreign policy to uplift the image of Pakistan Control over media, which is creating divide and state of panic. Strict actions to remove departmental corruptions and increase their efficiency. 9
RECOMMENDATIONS Terrorism targets common people. Creating security awareness in the masses to safeguard against such intruders. Supporting defense forces morally as well technically to effectively counter terrorism. Educating people to produce useful population rather than to produce houseful population. 10
