DEFINING A MALL A shopping mall can be said to be a privately owned public space. It is designed and constructed to profit financially the investors concerned while at the same time it serves as a recreational and shopping destination for the public. Success of a shopping mall can be described in two main aspects:- Business success - This is the success of the tenants occupying the investors asset thus assuring the investor in profit making. Architectural success - This is the public acceptance of the space that has been created once constructed. Combining the two words, a shopping mall can therefore be defined as building or set of buildings that provide walkways for the public to walk from one unit to another within the same building/set of buildings as they go about their business of exchanging goods and services for money

Shipra Mall promises to offer customers a never-ending shopping experience under one roof as well as convenience of ample parking space. The Shipra Mall is the first and the only International Standard Retail cum entertainment Mall and the launch pad of more than a dozen retail and food brands in the city. Features of Mall Shipra Mall, developed by Shipra Motel & Restaurants Limited . It is designed to be more than just a Cineplex or Multiplex. ABOUT SHIPRA MALL SHIPRA MALL has 3 main parts Retail units Retail units are the cluster of shops which forms the main part of the complex Atrium Atrium is the connecting link between all the working bodies of the mall. It can have staircases, escalators, lifts, kiosks , toilets and most important – the entry and the exit. Multiplex The multiplex or auditoriums or cinema halls basically designed for the entertainment.

Fully glazed entry and exit gates are provided. An amphitheatre is provided for relaxation and viewing performances. There is no underground parking provided. Parking is on the ground floor itself around the amphitheatre. BRIEF HIGHLIGHTS

PLANNING PATTERN GRID PATTERN Whole planning has been done on grids. Two gridding patterns has been used. The bigger one was 9m * 9m and another grid was 4m*9m . According to these grids shops are arranged and placed. Atrium has got bridging in between to connect opposite longer passages.

GENERAL PLANNING OF SHOPS Floor Plan Straight Floor Plan- The straight floor plan makes optimum use of the walls, and utilizes the space in the most judicious manner. The straight floor plan creates spaces within the retail store for the customers to move and shop freely . It is one of the commonly implemented store designs . Diagonal Floor Plan- According to the diagonal floor plan, the shelves or racks are kept diagonal to each other for the owner or the store manager to have a watch on the customers. Diagonal floor plan works well in stores where customers have the liberty to walk in and pick up merchandise on their own. STRAIGHT PLAN DIAGONAL PLAN

Angular Floor Plan- The fixtures and walls are given a curved look to add to the style of the store. Angular floor plan gives a more sophisticated look to the store. Such layouts are often seen in high end stores. Geometric Floor Plan- The racks and fixtures are given a geometric shape in such a floor plan. The geometric floor plan gives a trendy and unique look to the store. INTERNAL ATMOSPHERE Food Court Bite Inn – “The Food Court” The a esthetics and designing of the Food Court has been done in such a way that the space element always remain. The area is of approximately 15000 sq ft. The cuisines have been carefully selected to excite the taste buds. It can cater to 250 pax at one given time.

EXTERIORS OF MALL   Kids Zone “The Fun Place for Kids” It is being designed keeping in mind the young ones from 2yr old to 16yr old and for the young at heart too. The area is of approximately 17000 sq ft that has areas that engage and entertain one and all. Trained staff especially kept from those times that bring happiness for all The marketing team will make sure that the activities will go all year around and enhance the IQ of the kids with the element of Entertainment.

MALL FEATURES GLOBUS Globus aspires to be ‘the’ iconic youth fashion brand in the country. Globus is a complete fashion brand – it’s the apparel brand and the destination brand. The entire fashion range comprises of apparel for men, women, kids and accessories at amazing prices.

Multiplex- JAM JAM is a multiplex having 3 theaters . It has been designed keeping in view the finest cinema experience. It has “ baffle wall ” designed keeping the parameters of THX. The projectors are from Strong International of USA to give that projection that mesmerizes your vision The seats are of total comfort that sends you rocking throughout the movie. The carpeting is from USA keeping that fine element of dust not floating in the atmosphere. Air-conditioning with Ozonizers that keeps the freshness alive throughout the movie.

EXTERIORS OF MALL Front Look Shipra Mall has an attractive and large surrounding area. It has beautiful fountain in front of the main entrance. It has sitting area where customer can sit and can have gossips. It has beautiful lighting around boundary .   Typical roman style has been used for construction. External façade is colonnaded with a pillar as a point of emphasis in front of the main entry.

  PARKING It has large area for parking of car as well as scooter. It has capacity of Parking for 1000 cars.

FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEMS Before discussing about the fire fighting systems of Shipra mall we must know some norms related to fire escape. Fire escape shall not be taken into account while calculating the number of staircases for a building. All fire escapes shall be directly connected to the ground. Entrance to the fire escape shall be separate and remote from internal staircase. The route to fire escape shall be free of obstructions at all times except the doorway leading to the fire escape which shall have the required fire resistance. Fire escape shall be constructed of non-combustible materials. Fire escape stairs shall have straight flight not less than 125 cm wide with 25 cm treads and risers not more than 19 cm. Handrails shall be at a height not less than 100 cm. Fire escape staircase in the mercantile, business, assembly, hotel buildings above 24 m. Height shall be a fire tower and in such a case width of the same shall not be less than the width of the main staircase. No combustible material shall be allowed in the fire tower.

RAMPS Ramps of slope of not more than 1 in 10 .And Larger slopes shall be provided for special uses but in no case greater than 1 in 8. For all slopes exceeding 1 in 10 and where the use is such as to involve danger of slipping, the ramp shall be surfaced with approved non-slipping material. The minimum width of the ramps in the shopping malls shall be 2.4 m. and in the basement using car parking shall be 6.0 m. Handrails shall be provided on both sides of the ramp. Ramp shall lead directly to outside open space at ground level or courtyards of safe place. PROVISION OF LIFTS Provision of the lifts shall be made for all multi-storeyed building having a ht. of 15.0 m. and above. All the floors shall be accessible for 24 hrs. by the lift. The lift provided in the buildings shall not be considered as a means of escape in case of emergency. Grounding switch at ground floor level to enable the fire service to ground the lift car in case of emergency shall also be provided. .

Fire Dampers a) These shall be located in air ducts and return air ducts/passages at the following points: At the fire separation wall. Where ducts/passages enter the central vertical shaft. Where the ducts pass through floors. At the inlet of supply air duct and the return air duct of each compartment on every floor. The dampers shall operate automatically and shall simultaneously switch off the air- handling fans. Manual operation facilities shall also be provided Static water storage tank, automatic sprinklers, fire alarm systems and electricity services should be installed properly.

Fire alarm system Public address system fire exit staircases Medical center with First aid room Automatic switch off in Air Handling Units in case of fire Adequate Signage indicating locations of yard hydrants, emergency exits and floor plan for exits Adequate portable extinguishers of different types, i.e. DCP, CO2 & water Portable extinguishers

It connects to ductwork that distributes the conditioned air through the building, and returns it to the AHU
