Signs of Barometric Sensor Failure in Car

There are several important components in your car which play a crucial role in the smooth running and better performance of your car.

Besides, the mechanical parts, which help in the running of the car there are many sensors that play an equally vital role in the overall functioning of all the components of your car.

Among all the sensors that help in the smooth running of the car, the barometric sensor plays a critical role in the performance of the car.

As it is a very important sensor, you must know the signs of its failure so that you can immediately take remedial measures.

Power inefficiency

The power inefficiency is one of the common symptoms you will experience when the barometric sensor malfunctions.

If the barometric sensor will always provide a wrong reading on the intake manifold pressure, then, the car's engine will decrease the amount of fuel being transferred to the motor.

Besides that, due to the increase in the refueling frequency, you will note that the car's engine cannot be trusted and is not working efficiently as it used to be.

If you decrease the amount of fuel that gets transmitted to the engine, then this would lead to the increase in temperature in the combustion chamber.

Emission test failure

One of the best way to test that whether your barometer is functioning or not is to subject your car to an emission test.

This is because a bad barometric sensor leads to an increase in the volume of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emission.

Furthermore, the exhaust from the tailpipe of your car will indicate the bad condition of the engine which is very concerning.

Whenever your car undergoes an emission test and a high level of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon is detected in the emission test, then you should immediately fix your barometer sensor.

Excessive fuel consumption

A malfunctioning barometric sensor will provide wrong measurements of the high intake pressure and this can lead to many problems in your car.

This reading is processed by the computer as a form of necessity to an increase the amount of fuel injected into the engine and it leads to increase in the fuel consumption by the car.

If you ever notice that there is an increase in the frequency of going to the filling station, then you should inspect the barometer sensor.

Moreover, the illumination of the check engine light of your car can also indicate the malfunctioning of the barometric sensor.
