What is silhouette?
A silhouette refers to the outer
shape of the garment.


The silhouette should adhere to
many of the elements and
principles of good design, line,
flow, form, proportion and
balance.

It's about shape and outline.
terms such as "hourglass" "pear"
"apple" "bouffant" are some
standard silhouette terms
commonly used.

Different types silhouettes?
A-Line – This is a silhouette, usually of
a one-piece garment, flaring gently at
the waist or hips, thus resembling the
letter A.

H-Line – This is a
silhouette, usually of a
one-piece garment,
going straight from
shoulder to hip, and
crossed at the waist with
a belt, cuff or other
accent, thus resembling
the letter ‘H.’

Empire — This was a
popular silhouette in
the early 1800s, the cut
features a waistline just
below the bust and a
skirt that flows down all
the way down.
Empire silhouettes is best for body with
pear shape i.e. with bulky hipline . It
helps to hide bulky hip as it has flares
from bust line

Empire silhouettes also suits on apple
type figure. It helps to hide tummy as it
has flares from bust line

Mermaid — This is a voluptuous
silhouette that follows the figure
down to the knee before flaring out
dramatically. It is mainly for the
petite figures with less junk and no
tummy bulge.
Mermaid - This silhouette gives the proper body shape of
a female figure .

silhouette is defined by its
natural waistline that angles
down into a V and
accompanies a flared skirt.


This silhouette is worn to
balance the wide / broad
upper part with narrow thin
lower part.

Princess — This silhouette is quite
similar to the A-line, It is fitted at top
and follows clean lines as it flares out
through the skirt.
