Expressing Past Actions SIMPLE PAST TENSE

What is Simple Past Tense? Expresses actions that already happened Uses time markers like "yesterday," "last week," "ago" Can be in verbal or nominal form Question: Can you think of an action you did yesterday?

Verbal Form: Positive Statements Subject + Verb 2 (past tense verb) Examples: I studied English last night. She went to Panam yesterday.

Verbal Form: Negative Statements Subject + did not (didn't) + Verb 1 (base form) Examples: I did not study English last night. She did not go to Panam yesterday. Remember: Verb changes back to base form with "did not"

Verbal Form: Questions Did + Subject + Verb 1 (base form) + ? Examples: Did you study English last night? Did she go to Panam yesterday?

Nominal Form: Using Was/Were For statements about state of being or location in the past Use "was" for I, he, she, it Use "were" for you, we, they Examples: I was in Okura last month. They were so happy last night.

Nominal Form: Negative and Questions Negative: Subject + was/were + not Questions: Was/Were + Subject + ? Examples: I was not in Okura yesterday. We …… in Okura yesterday. Were they happy last night? ……. She busy last week?
