Sine Bar
Objective:
To measure the angle of a component with the help of sine bar.
Apparatus:
Sine bar3
Gauge block
Surface plate dial gauge with stand.
Procedure:
A sine bar consist of a hardened precession ground with two precession ground cylinders fixed at
the end the distance between the centers of the cylinders is precisely controlled and the top of the
bar is parallel to a line through the centers of the two rollers. The dimension between the two
rollers is chosen to be a number and forms the hypotenuse of a high angle. When a level surface
the top angle will be parallel to that surface.
Observation and calculation:
Zero Error= 0
L. c of v. c = 0.05 mm
Where: L= length of sin bar
h = height of gauge block
Sr # Length of bar Height of bar
1 254 15.48 3.49
2 254 14.10 3.18
3 254 13.70 2.86
Comment:
1: The hypotenuse is the constant dimension.
2: To height is obtained from the dimension between the bottom of one roller and the table
surface.
3: sine bar is used to measure the angles between large work-pieces.
