one hour.
Selection criteria:
24 V supply sustained over long period, to
continue with running process, for example.
High load current to 40 A
SITOP UPS500
DC UPS with high-capacity double-
layer capacitors. Bridging of power
failures for minutes.
Selection criteria:
Data backup and powering down of
applications in the minute range.
Completely maintenance-free
High ambient temperatures of up to 60°C
No ventilation required because no gas is
emitted
Distributed use without control cabinet
Buffer module
Add-on module with electrolytic
capacitors for bridging brief power
failures. Can be combined with
SITOP modular.
Selection criteria:
Low-cost protection against power failures
of up to 3 seconds maximum
Support of the power supply unit when the
demand for current is briefly increased
High load current up to 40 A

Reliable DC UPS for PC-based
automation solutions
We offer optimally matched products for reliable 24V power supply for PC-based
systems with protection against mains failure:
SITOP power supply units, e.g. SITOP smart 5 and 10 A (IP20) or SITOP PSU300P 8 A (IP65)
DC UPSs with battery modules or UPS500S/P with capacitors
SIMATIC IPC with 24 VDC input
Microbox PC 427B / IPC427C / Box PC 627B / 827B
Panel PC 477B / HMI IPC477C / 677B
Flat Panel monitors with 24 V DC input
Other 24V devices
Embedded Controller EC31
UPS operation is important for the following SIMATIC software packages:
SIMATIC WinAC RTX
SIMATIC WinCC flexible

Safe shutdown
Running applications and the operating system are saved
WinAC backs up the retentive data and shuts down for Windows XP, XP embedded and
Vista operating systems
The time between the power failing and shutdown of the PC can be set simply in the
software tool
After shutdown of the PC, the UPS can be shut down after a definable time
Maintenance of energy reserves
Integration of your own applications possible
For example, customized shutdown programs
Software for backlight shutoff for the Panel PCs 477B, 677B and IPC477C extends
the buffer time or enables use of a smaller energy store
The software is currently only available for Windows XP and can be obtained via the
SIMATIC Hotline

Correct restart of PCs
Problem:
If the PC is shut down following a power failure and the 24V is
maintained by the UPS, the PC can normally only be switched on again
by switching the 24 V DC supply or the PC off and on again.
Solution:
A brief interruption (approximately 5 s) of the 24 V DC supply voltage
can be set in the DC UPS, resulting in a restart of the PC. The
interruption only takes place after shutdown of the PC and if the mains
voltage is available

How is a system configured?
1.The customer selects the PC, the I/O devices and the application software
2.Calculation of the making current and the maximum operating current
- by means of current measurement
- or from the data sheets, if available
3.Ambient temperature?
4.Measurement of the time the system requires to save the relevant data, close
applications, and shut down
5.Selection of the power supply unit according to rated current (including
charging current for UPS) and max. peak current
6.Calculation of energy requirements
7.Selection of the DC UPS according to max. operating current, ambient
temperature and energy store
8.Note: After switching on, the UPS is not available while the energy store is
charging

How is a system configured?
Example 1
1.Panel PC 477B with 19" display without backlight shutoff
2.Max. operating current 3.6 A, peak current 14.4 A for 30 ms
3.Ambient temperature: 40 °C
4.Time required for backing up and shutting down the system: 35s
5.SITOP smart 10 A (15 A max. for 5 s), order no. 6EP1334-2BA01 (LP: €153)
6.Calculation of the energy store:
Energy requirement + 20% due to capacity loss after approximately 8 years:
3.6 A x 24 V x 35 s x 1.2 = 3628 W
Check in the table for UPS500 "Buffer and charging times"
7.SITOP UPS500S basic unit 5 kW, order no. 6EP1933-2EC51 (LP: €379)
Result: UPS500S basic unit 5kW required

How is a system configured?
Example 2
1.Panel PC 477B with 19" display with backlight shutoff
2.Max. operating current 2.2 A, peak current 14.4 A for 30 ms
3.Ambient temperature: 40 °C
4.Time required for backing up and shutting down the system: 35 s
5.SITOP smart 10 A (15 A max. for 5 s), order no. 6EP1334-2BA01 (LP: €153)
6.Calculation of the energy store:
Energy requirement + 20 % due to capacity loss after approximately 8 years:
2.2 A x 24 V x 35 s x 1.2 = 2217 W
Check in the table for UPS500 "Buffer and charging times"
7.SITOP UPS500S basic unit 2.5 kW, order no. 6EP1933-2EC41 (LP: €299)
Result: UPS500S basic unit 2.5kW sufficient

How is a system configured?
Example 3
1.Panel PC 477B with 19" display
2.Max. operating current 3.6 A, peak current 14.4 A for 30 ms
3.Ambient temperature: 40 °C
4.Time required for backing up and shutting down the system : 300 s
5.SITOP smart 10 A (15 A max. for 5 s), order no. 6EP1334-2BA01 (LP: €153)
6.Calculation of the energy store:
Energy requirement + 20 % due to capacity loss after approximately 8 years:
3.6 A x 24 V x 300 s x 1.2 = 31,104 W
Check in the table for UPS500 "Buffer and charging times": no meaningful
device combination can be recommended!
The system must be designed in accordance with the configuring information
for DC UPS modules as described in the SITOP Catalog KT 10.1
Result: DC UPS with battery module required
