A sitz bath is a shallow bath in which only the hips and buttocks are immersed in warm water. It provides relief and promotes healing for various conditions affecting the genital and anal areas. WHAT IS SITZ BATH?
Benefits of a Sitz Bath / purposes Pain Relief Calms and alleviates pain associated with hemorrhoids, menstrual cramps, vulvar itching, and postpartum discomfort. Inflammation Reduction Helps reduce swelling, irritation, and inflammation in the genital area, promoting faster healing. Improved Hygiene Enhances cleanliness and hygiene, especially after childbirth or surgeries in the pelvic region.

INDICATIONS: Hemorrhoids Having recent surgeries on anus Anal Fissures Having recently given vaginal birth
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Having an allergy to any substances added to the water Having a sever infection in the perineal area Having a bleeding disorders
Preparation Fill a bathtub or portable sitz bath container with warm water at a comfortable temperature. Add soothing ingredients like Epsom salts or herbal infusions if desired or any prescribed medications. PROCEDURE: Positioning Sit in the bath, ensuring the hips and buttocks are fully submerged in water. Relax and rest comfortably for 10-20 minutes.
SITZ BATH KIT SITTING POSITION
Drying and Care Gently pat dry the area after the bath. Keep the area clean and dry between sitz baths to prevent infections.
NURSING CARE Check the physician's order for sitz bath and the patient's indication, contraindication, and preference Prepare the materials needed, such as towels, bathmat, bath blanket, inflatable ring, patient's clean clothes, and thermometer Explain the procedure and its purpose to the patient and obtain consent
Provide privacy and assist the patient to undress and get into the tub. Help the patient to sit comfortably and cover the upper body with a bath blanket Monitor the patient's vital signs, comfort level, and response to the sitz bath. Observe for signs of weakness, faintness, or bleeding
