Subject: Social Studies Class: 8 th Topic: Natural Vegetation: Meaning & Importance Period: 5th Illustrative aids: F lashcard Time 5-7 min. GENERAL AIM: To develop the interest of students in Social Studies. SPECIFIC AIM: To recognize the contributions of natural vegetation in ecosystem. PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE ASSUMED: Pupil teacher will assume that pupils are quite familiar with the importance of trees and plants in our daily life. PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE TESTING: After narrating an engaging story to the pupils, the Pupil Teacher will ask few questions to assess their prior knowledge. The story is:

When I was in 9th class, I visited an exhibition on handicrafts with my classmates and teachers. The articles in the exhibition were collected from different parts of the country. I picked up a bag and exclaimed, “This is a beautiful handbag !” “Yes, it is made from jute ,” my teacher said. “Do you see those baskets, lampshades, and chairs ? Those are made of canes and bamboos. In the eastern and northeastern humid regions of India, bamboo grows in plenty.” My friend Simran was excited to see a silk scarf as shown in the picture. “See this beautiful scarf,” she said. The teacher explained that silk is obtained from silkworms that are bred on mulberry trees. So, we understood that plants provide us with many different products that we use in our day-to-day life.

PUPIL TEACHER ACTIVITY PUPIL ACTIVITY 1. So, students just imagine: What will happen if plants will disappear from the earth’s surface? Loss of Oxygen, food shortages, Parks, gardens, forests, and natural landscapes would disappear. 2. What plants provide to human being for survival? Plants provide timber, oxygen, fruits, nuts, latex, turpentine oil, gum, medicinal plants to human being. 3. What do you know about the plant community which grow naturally without human aid? Unsatisfactory response. On the basis of above story P.T. will ask following question to the students

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE TOPIC: After getting unsatisfactory response pupil teacher will announce the topic, Well! Students today we will learn very interesting topic that is “Natural Vegetation”.
