What is solar panel? A solar panel is an electrical device that converts the energy of light directly into electricity. It supplies a voltage and a current to a resistive load (light, battery, motor). It is like a battery because it supplies DC power.

History of solar Panel The photovoltaic effect was first experimentally demonstrated by French physicist Edmond Becquerel, In 1839. Albert Einstein explained the underlying mechanism of light instigated carrier excitation—the photoelectric effect—in 1905. Albert Einstein

History of solar Panel The first practical photovoltaic cell was publicly demonstrated on April 25, 1954 at Bell Laboratories. From 2002 we can see the modern solar cell. Bell Laboratories

Types of solar panel Based on the types of crystal used, solar cells can be classified as, Monocrystalline silicon cells 2. Polycrystalline silicon cells 3. Amorphous silicon cells

Comparison among the three types of solar panel Material Efficiency (%) Monocrystalline silicon cells 14-17 Polycrystalline silicon cells 13-15 Amorphous silicon cells 5-7

Advantages It is clean and non-polluting It is a renewable energy Solar cells do not produce noise and they are totally silent. They are long lasting sources of energy which can be used almost anywhere They have long life time There are no fuel costs or fuel supply problems

Disad v a n t a g e Solar power can`t be obtained in night time Solar cells (or) solar panels are very expensive Air pollution and whether can affect the production of electricity They need large area of land to produce more efficient power supply
