Sri Aurobindo life history and his teachings
Sri Aurobindo was an Indian philosopher, poet, and yoga guru who lived from 1872 to 1950. He was a leading figure in the Indian independence movement and was also a spiritual teacher who developed a unique approach to yoga and spirituality.
Sri Aurobindo was born in Calcutta, India, and received his education in England before returning to India to become involved in the nationalist movement. He was arrested several times for his activism and spent a year in solitary confinement.
After his release from prison, Sri Aurobindo turned his attention to spiritual pursuits and began to develop his own system of yoga. He believed that the purpose of yoga was to facilitate the evolution of human consciousness, enabling individuals to transcend their limitations and achieve a state of unity with the divine.
Sri Aurobindo's teachings emphasized the importance of integrating spiritual practice into daily life, and he developed a system of yoga that included meditation, self-inquiry, and the development of spiritual intuition. He also emphasized the importance of physical health and well-being and developed a system of physical exercises known as Integral Yoga, which combines traditional yoga postures with other physical exercises.
Sri Aurobindo also believed in the concept of the "supramental," a state of consciousness beyond the human mind that could be achieved through spiritual practice. He believed that the supramental consciousness was the key to the evolution of human consciousness and the ultimate realization of the divine.
In addition to his spiritual teachings, Sri Aurobindo was also a prolific writer and poet. He wrote extensively on a wide range of topics, including spirituality, politics, and literature.
Today, Sri Aurobindo's teachings continue to inspire and influence people around the world. The Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, India, which was founded by Sri Aurobindo and his spiritual partner, Mirra Alfassa (known as "the Mother"), continues to be a center of spiritual practice and community. The teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother continue to be studied and practiced by individuals and groups around the world who seek to evolve their consciousness and realize their full spiritual potential.
