Communities Defeat Terrorism Cinema Campaign
Launch date: 6th March 2020
•CT Policing will be relaunching the eight-week nationwide Communities
Defeat Terrorism cinema advertising and social media campaign on 6th
March 2020.
•The terror threat remains high, and three recent terror attacks in a 10 week
period are stark reminders of the need for the public to keep vigilant and
come forward with information to help keep communities safe.
•As per last year, the campaign will encourage the public to report suspicious
activity via gov.uk/ACT. It will improve awareness of the threat and what to
look out for. It aims to increase the quality and quantity of reports from
communities.
•Following the 2019 campaign there was a 37% increase in weekly online
reports from the public and 83% of cinemagoers agreed that the localised
call to action had a positive effect on their likelihood to report.
•The ACT film will be adapted for cinema screens, including interactive
questions and a regionally tailored call to action. It will run during film trailers
in cinemas. It will be supported by social media.
•Using cinemas will allow us to deliver our messaging with fewer distractions,
more impact and to more hard to reach audiences, such as young people.
We are asking all forces and partners, public and
private, to support the campaign by:
•Sharing our digital assets on their social media accounts.
•Sharing ACT posters and graphics in their office building, display
screens and public areas.
•Sharing ACT content with staff via their intranet and internal
newsletters.
•Adapt our news story template for their website to explain why they
are supporting ACT and share examples of signs to spot and how to
report.
•Use external newsletters, website, blogs and other channels to
signpost the public to advice on how to report via gov.uk/ACT
Although this campaign asks the public to report concerns via
gov.uk/ACT, it may result in increased calls to local forces. Please
deal with these calls in the normal way.
