Staying Alive – Annotated lyrics
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man: no time to talk
Music loud and women warm, I've been kicked around
Since I was born
And now it's all right, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive

Well now, I get low and I get high
And if I can't get either, I really try
Got the wings of heaven on my shoes
I'm a dancin' man and I just can't lose
You know it's all right, it's okay
I'll live to see another day
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah, I'm stayin' alive

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man: no time to talk
Music loud and women warm
I've been kicked around since I was born
And now it's all right, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
3 men (the artists) walking in
the open, alone, maybe a forest
singing along to the lyrics with a
stylish walk to emphasise the
lyrics.
The actors pop up in a
city/ busy town centre lip
syncing.
One person lip syncs while
the others dance, then swap
after every ‘staying alive’.
Shots of wildlife, normal
people, traffic passing by,
the artists just looking
around in these situations.
One artist acting like a
‘brother’ in gang, young,
teen behaviour stereotypes,
another acting as a mother
to the last artist representing
the contrast in lyrics and
different lifestyles.
Cut back to the artists
lip syncing in the middle
of nowhere.
Start at eye level shot 360
degrees circling around the
artist who are lip syncing and
then gradually gets higher and
higher into a bird’s eye view
shot.
Artists are on a beach
with the sun setting
and they are walking
along the water edge.
Cut to the men on a
cliff looking out on
the ocean.
Focus on main artist
who is top of a roof
singing and looking
directly into the camera

Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I'm stayin' alive

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I'm stayin' alive

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I'm stayin' alive

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I'm stayin' alive.
Repeated shot from
previous locations of
artists lip syncing.
Long takes, close up and
medium shots. Over the
shoulder shots of
locations and good views
of city life, sun sets, the
forest.
Long shots of artists walking into
sun set in the distance slowly
getting further and further away
from the camera.
Throughout the video the actors will be wearing
some iconic fashion items and trends to target
the audiences modern view of the time era rather
than having the video as being viewed from an
audience in the 80’s. This is to really capture the
audience’s attention and engagement within the
film.
