About This Presentation

It is very important to have a realistic time span for the strategic plan. By understanding the examples I have given, you can see that strategic planning is generally measured in years, tactical planning in months, and operational planning in days or weeks. This simple guideline is very valuable.

STRATEGIC PLANNING REPORTER: SITTIE ANIYAH R H USMAN, LPT, JD

I II Issues & Concerns in Long Range Planning (LRP) III Concept of Strategic Planning Formulating School Vision and Mission

I.Concept of Strategic Planning A strategic plan describes how goals will be achieved using available resources. It is a roadmap that guides the school towards achieving its goals and objectives.. STRATEGIC PLANNING is the process of setting goals, deciding on actions to achieve those goals, and mobilizing the resources needed to take those actions . -is a vital aspect of successful school management, and it plays a crucial role in helping schools to meet the needs of their students, staff, and community

Critical Aspects of Strategic Planning 01 Strategic Planning for Alignment 02 Strategic Planning for Change 03 Curriculum Design in Strategic Planning 04 Review and Self Assessment For Strategic Planning

Review and Self Assessment For Strategic Planning 01 Strategic planning involves a comprehensive and systematic approach to assessing the current state of the school, identifying the school’s strengths and weaknesses, and developing a clear plan of action to achieve the school’s goals and objectives.

One of the key benefits of strategic planning is that it helps schools to align their resources and efforts towards achieving their goals. It is important that there is one plan and there is alignment. Strategic Planning for Alignment 02

Strategic Planning for Change 03 Another benefit of strategic planning is that it helps schools to anticipate and respond to changes in the educational landscape. With new technologies, shifting demographics, and changing educational policies , schools must be agile and adaptive. Strategic planning can help schools to identify emerging trends and anticipate future challenges, allowing them to prepare and respond proactively .

Curriculum Design in Strategic Planning 04 A strategic plan can help schools to identify the key competencies that students need to develop and design a curriculum that fosters those competencies. By aligning curriculum design with strategic goals, schools can ensure that their educational programs are effective and relevant.  The unique “curriculum voice” of a school must be loud and clear.

C hallenges of Strategic Planning and Implementation It is important that the process and the plan is truly authentic and not just window dressing for change or compliance. Improvement should be the goal, not just a document or a new direction. Masquerading changes that look like reform but are really change for the sake of change is a big mistake . R emember: Behind the hills of sacrifices, there is a valley of success 1. Authenticity

There is evidence that schools are well served by one-page plans that are clearly focused and simple enough that every participant in the process understands his or her role in executing the plan. One page plans, or simple and clear plans, are the most effective. 2. Overly Complex and Disconnected

schools must ensure that there is explicit ownership over the strategic plan to prevent initiatives from being lost, forgotten or overlooked. because of the diverse goals and perspectives of different entities involved in the school, such as the board of directors, administration, faculty, and students. can lead to poor decision-making, ineffective solutions, and unattainable goals. The longer schools take to implement a strategic plan, the more likely it is to become outdated and irrelevant 2. Lack of Ownership 3. Poor Strategic Alignment 4. Poor Communication 5. Slow Plan Adoption

II- Formulating School Vision and Mission 1. Understand the Purpose *Vision Statement : A vision statement defines what the school aspires to become in the future. It's a long-term goal that reflects the school's values and aspirations. *Mission Statement : A mission statement outlines the school's core purpose and primary objectives. It focuses on the present and defines what the school does, whom it serves, and how it serves them. 2. Engage Stakeholders - Involve a variety of stakeholders in the process, including teachers, administrators, students, parents, and community members. - Conduct surveys, focus groups, and meetings to gather input and ensure the vision and mission resonate with the broader school community.

Formulating School Vision and Mission 3. Analyze Current Situation - Review the school’s current strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis). - Evaluate existing strategic plans and performance data to identify areas for improvement and key priorities. 4. Define Core Values - Identify the core values that the school stands for and that will guide decision-making. - Ensure these values are reflected in both the vision and mission statements.

Formulating School Vision and Mission 5. Draft the Vision Statement - Keep it concise, inspirational, and future-focused. - Make it broad enough to encompass the aspirations of the entire school community but specific enough to provide clear direction. 6. Draft the Mission Statement - Focus on the present and define the school’s core purpose. - Include who the school serves, what it provides, and how it delivers on its promises. - Ensure it is actionable and reflects the day-to-day operations of the school.

Formulating School Vision and Mission 7. Align with Strategic Planning Ensure that the vision and mission align with the school’s strategic goals and objectives . - The vision and mission should provide a foundation for strategic initiatives and guide the allocation of resources.
