Slide Content

A student involved or student led conference
is one led by the student, or one where the
student is highly involved in the plan and
execution of the conference. Students will
share their work, reflections and goals about
their learning with their parents.

Our jobs as teachers is to educate children by
facilitating their academic, social and
emotional growth. One way to marry
academic and emotional growth is through
student involved conferences. Research (John
Hattie) has shown when students reflect and
set goals about their learning, they indeed
achieve more, but also become independent
and responsible learners.

To allow students the opportunity to develop
formal speaking skills in safe and
developmentally appropriate ways.
To showcase the student and their learning,
allowing parents to step into the child’s world
and view his/her education through their eyes
within the learning environment.

Currently, teachers are receiving
professional learning about how to
implement this type of conference
Will be implemented during the 14-15
school year
Will take the place of fall conference and all
students will be included in a spring/end of
school year conference
Will last approximately 20 minutes

Student –How a student conducts his/her conference
will differ by grade level and teacher. Students will
share their learning through some type of portfolio.
Younger students may lead a “tour” of the room and
show parents what they do in each area.
Parent –Is a listener, cheerleader, questioner, learner,
supporter.
Teacher –Prepares students for their role prior to the
conference. Monitors the conversation during the
conference, adds to the conversation by elaborating
or answering a parent question a student is unable to
answer, may facilitate the conversation in some
instances.
