Motivation Concept Motivation comes from Within. It is a drive to satisfy an unsatisfied need. Once a need satisfied, it is no longer a motivator. No until a lower level need satisfied does the next higher need become dominant. An unsatisfied need which can’t be satisfied leads to frustration. Man is a ‘Wanting Animal” and finds new needs when old ones are satisfied.

What is Communication? Transfer of information and understanding from one person to another person. A bridge that a person can cross safely on the river of misunderstanding. It is not what you say, but how you say that matters. Communication is an art and it is improved by experience and patience.

What is Communication? Messages are Sent and Received. Confirmation of their receipt. Interpretation is returned by the receiver to the sender. Effective communication is always a two-way process.

Be a Good Listener Encourage the Speaker Ask questions Don’t interrupt Don’t change the topic Show respect Pay attention Avoid distractions Be open minded Concentrate on the message. Recognize the non-verbal communication

A Starfish Story

Once upon a time there was a wise old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing . He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work…..

One early morning he was walking along the shore, and as he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up...

As he got closer, he saw that he was a young man , and the young man was not dancing .. Instead he was reaching down to the shore , picking up something , and very gently throwing it into the ocean….

As the old man got closer , he called out , “Good morning! What are you doing ?” The young man paused and replied, “Throwing starfish into the ocean..”

The young man continued.. “As the sun is up and the tide is going out…. If I don’t throw them in , they will die……”

“But, young man,” said the older, “don’t you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are tens of thousands of starfish all along it …..You can’t make a difference..” The young man listened politely

Then he bent down , picked up another starfish and threw it inside the sea, outpast the breaking waves and said…….. “I made a difference to that one….”

Moral of the story…. You can make a difference...
