132 GSS CPWD,JAIPUR 25 October 2018 1 SUBMITTED TO: MR. GYANENDRA PRAKASH ( ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, Govt. Engg. College , Ajmer) SUBMITTED BY: RAMESH KUMAWAT R0ll.N0. - 15EEAEE036 DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL GOVT. ENGINEERING COLLEGE AJMER Summer Training Seminar

INTRODUCTION 25 October 2018 2 Summer Training Seminar Rajasthan State Electricity Board started working form 1 July, 1957. The aim of RSEB is to supply electricity to entire Rajasthan state in the most economical way. Government of Rajasthan on 19th July 2000, issued a gazette notification unbundling Rajasthan State Electricity Board into:- ( i ) Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RRVUNL), the generation Company. (ii) Rajasthan RajyaVidyutPrasaran Nigam Ltd, (RRVPNL), the transmission Company.

The three regional distribution companies namely : 1. Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. ( JVVNL ). 2. Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd.( AVVNL ). 3. Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. ( JDVVNL ). Depending on the purpose, substations may be classified as:- 1. Step up substation 2. Primary grid substation 3. Secondary substation 4. Distribution substation 25 October 2018 3 Summer Training Seminar

A  substation  is a part of electrical  generation ,  transmission , and  distribution  system. Substations transform  voltage  from high to low, or the reverse, or perform any of several other important functions. Substations may be owned and operated by an electrical utility. The word  substation  comes from the days before the distribution system became a  grid . 25 October 2018 4 Summer Training Seminar

WHY WE NEED GSS ??? Improvement of Reliability Improvement of economics Improvement of efficiency Imrovement of power quality Improvement of security & safety Controller of entire power system Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 5

EQUIPMENTS –LIGHTENING ARRESTER Protect the Insulation & Conductors of the system from damaging effect of LIGHTNING. Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 10

WAVE TRAP (PLCC) POWER LINE CARRIER COMMUNICATION Exchange of data and transfer of messages between substations. WAVE TRAP-TRAPPING the unwanted waves . Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 11

ISOLATORS Used for completety DE-ENERGISED the electrical ckt . For SERVICE or MAINTENANCE Separate the circuit at NO LOAD CONDITION. Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 12

INSTRUMENT TRANSFORMERS Instrument transformers are used for measurement and protective applications together with equipments such as meters & relays. Types- - CURRENT TRANSFORMER - POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 13

CIRCUIT BREAKER Automatically Operated ELECTRICAL SWITCH. Designed to protect the ckt . from overload or SHORT CKT. Separate Healthy & Faulty Section of ckt . Operate at ON LOAD Condition. TYPES OF CIRCUIT BREAKERS Air Circuit Breaker SF6 Circuit Breaker Vacuum Circuit Breaker Oil Circuit Breaker Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 14

BUS BAR A bus bar is a conducting bar that carries heavy currents to supply several electric circuits. Made up of copper rod or thin walled tubes. TYPES:- - MAIN BUS BAR. - AUXILIARY BUS BAR Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 15

A Static Device. Transfer Power from One ckt . to Another ckt . NO Change in FREQUENCY. Principle-FARADAY ’s LAW of ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION. Types- 1. STEP UP X-MER:: O/P Voltage > I/P Voltage. 2. STEP DOWN X-MER :: O/P Voltage < I/P Voltage. POWER TRANSFORMER Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 16

PARTS OF TRANSFORMER core Winding(H.V winding, L.V winding, tertiary winding) X-MER OILS PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE BREATHER Conservator RADIATER Tap changer Tank Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 18

PROTECTIVE RELAYS Protective Relay is a sensing device and is designed to detect operating conditions on an electric circuit. It trips the circuit breaker when fault is detected. Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 19

BUCHHOLZ RELAY A gas actuated relay. it is installed in b/w the conservator and the main tank. PRINCIPLE:- Whenever a fault occurs inside the transformers, the oil of the tank gets overheated and gases are generated . The heat generated by the high local current causes the transformer oil to decompose and produce gas which can be used to detect the faults. Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 20

BATTERY ROOM DC battery shell be installed in the power house for Protection. Emergency power. Alarm and indication. Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 21

TRANSFORMERS Also known as the heart of substations. These are used to reduce the voltages at appropriate levels CURRENT VOLTAGE TRANSFORMERS It is a used in power systems to step down extra high voltage signals and provide a low voltage signal, for measurement or to operate a protective relay WAVETRAP Traps the high frequency signals RELAY Used to sense the faults ISOLATORS Used for maintenance of the circuit in no load condition CIRCUIT BREAKER used to protect the equipment by opening the circuit for over current and over voltages LIGHTINING ARRESTER Used for protecting the equipment from surge voltages SUMMARY OF EQUIPMENTs Summer Training Seminar 25 October 2018 22
