SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS MRS. VANDANA RAJPAL ASSISTANT PROFESSOR SUMANDEEP NURSING COLLEGE

CHEATLE FORCEP/TRANSFER FORCEP

To take sterile instruments Can be used for transfering sterile articles

SPONGE HOLDING FORCEPS

 holding swabs or sponges

TOOTHED DISSECTING FORCEPS

Toothed Dissecting Forceps are used to handle tissues, muscles or skin.

NON TOOTHED DISSECTING FORCEPS

To hold delicate structure like peritoneum, vessels, nerves and muscles.

ADSON FORCEPS

These forceps are used for holding delicate tissues.

STRAIGHT ARTERY FORCEPS

To grasp vessels, tissue or sutures.

CURVED ARTERY FORCEPS

Use to hold delicate tissue.

MOSQUITO FORCEPS

Frequently used for small blood vessels

KOCHER'S   HEMOSTATIC FORCEP

It is specifically designed to catch the bleeder that are deep within tissue hence it is ideally used on tough structures like palms, soles or scalp.

NEEDLE HOLDER

to hold a suturing needle for closing wounds during suturing

TOWEL CLIP

securing towels or drapes to ensure they stay in place.

ALLIS TISSUE FORCEPS

To hold thin but tough tissue

BABCOCK TISSUE FORCEPS

Used to grasp delicate tissue. They are frequently used with intestinal and laparotomy procedures.

SCALPEL HANDLE

Hold Scalpel blade

BLUNT SCISSOR

Mainly used for dissection and for cutting through fine tissue. These surgical scissors are also suitable for cutting through dressings, sutures and other surgical materials.

SHARP SCISSOR

Sharp Operating Scissors  is used to cut tougher tissue.

LISTER BANDAGE SCISSOR

Use to remove bandage and dressing

LANGENBECK RETRACTOR

used to retract soft tissues and wound edges in order to visualize deeper structures.

BULLDOG CLAMP

The Bulldog clamp is a useful instrument for stopping blood flow to a particular organ of interest.

RONGEUR FORCEPS

A  rongeur  is heavy-duty surgical instrument with a sharp-edged, scoop-shaped tip, used for gouging out bone. A  rongeur  is used in oral maxillofacial surgery to remove bony fragments or soft tissue.

BONE CURETTE

It is used for scraping and scooping bone and other material. The spoon makes it easy to lift the debris up and out.

DEBAKEY FORCEPS

Debakey forceps are a type of atraumatic tissue forceps used in vascular procedures to avoid tissue damage during manipulation.

RIGHT ANGLED FORCEPS

Used to dissect important organs and ligature may be passed around the vessels.

VASCULAR CLAMP

Vascular Clamps are used to primarily clamp blood vessels.

SINGLE HOOK RETRACTOR

used for holding back the edges of skin during intranasal and pharyngeal procedures

DOUBLE HOOK RETRACTOR

the double muscle retractor replaces the two separate muscle hooks usually used for this type of quadrant exposure, thus freeing one hand of the assistant for sponging, counter retraction and cutting sutures.

CROCODILE FORCEPS

Foreign body removal, oral packing, nasal packing.

NASAL SPECULUM

It is used in nasal examinations and in surgical operations

DOYEN’S RETRACTOR

The Doyen’s Retractor is a broad based retractor used to pull back soft tissues and widen the surgical field. This is useful in laparotomies and pelvic surgeries like abdominal hysterectomy and caesarean section

PROCTOSCOPE

A  proctoscope  is a hollow, tube-like speculum that is used for visual inspection of the rectum

CHISEL

used to chip out the bone.

OSTEOTOME

To cut the bone

SURGICAL CAUTERY

A surgeon may use this technique to cut through soft tissue during surgery so they can gain access to a particular site. Electro cauterization allows your surgeon to seal off blood vessels that are bleeding during surgery. Sealing off blood vessels helps prevent blood loss and keeps the site clean

BONE SAW

used to cut or remove bones

GIGLI SAW WIRE

A  Gigli saw is a flexible wire saw used by surgeons for bone cutting. A  Gigli saw is used mainly for amputation, where the bones have to be smoothly cut at the level of amputation.

WEITLANER RETRACTOR

Weitlaner Retractor is a self-retaining retractor commonly used in herniotomy , femoropopliteal bypass, plastic surgery, bone and joint procedures, and mastoid surgery.

FINOCHIETTO SMALL RIB SPREADER OR RETRACTOR

Used for surgical access in thoracotomy and sternotomy .

MALLET HAMMER

Mallet used in orthopedic , ENT, Neurosurgery etc To drive the nail and screw into bones Also used in dissection and resection of bones
