Suvarnaprashan means administering processed gold (bhasma) with other medicaments to children for health promotion and disease prevention.

Reference in Classics

Mentioned by Acharya Kashyapa in Kashyapa Samhita under Lehana (immunization-like therapy for children).

Described as one of the best rasayana (rejuvenative) therapies for children.

Ingredients

Suvarna Bhasma (purified gold ash)

Ghrita (cow’s ghee)

Madhu (pure honey)

Sometimes fortified with medhya dravyas (intellect-promoting herbs like Brahmi, Shankhpushpi, Vacha).

Method of Administration

Given orally, usually in the morning on an auspicious day (Pushya Nakshatra considered best).

Administered as a single drop to a few drops depending on the age of the child.

Can be given from birth up to 16 years of age.
