When opened they resemble a Swastik so called as Swastika yantra they are also called as Artery forceps or mid-wifery forceps.
Appearance: These are like masoor daal, joint at the center with a nail and are 18 angula pramana.
These are 24 in no. Out of which 9 are Pashumukhi(resemble as face of animal) and 15 are Pakshimukhi(resemble as face of bird).

Swastilka yantra is first yantra mentioned by Acharya Sushrutha . and it resembles like swastika when it gets open. and these are said to be connected by central hinge joint which reembles like masoor daal.

USES T o remove shalya from hard structures like bone etc. Pranimukhi yantra are thick, heavy and so they all used to remove those Shalyas which are visible externally .  Pakshimukhi Yantras are like neck of birds thin slender long and so are used to remove those shalyas which are deep inside structures .
