Introduction Swat is a valley and an administrative district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. It is the upper valley of the Swat River, which rises in the Hindu Kush range. Swat is known as the Switzerland of Asia. The capital of Swat is Saidu Sharif, but the main town in the Swat valley is Mingora. The valley is almost entirely populated by ethnic Gujjar , Kohistani and Pashtuns. The languages spoken in the valley are Gojri , Kohistani and Pashto.

GEOGRAPHY The area of swat valley is 10,360 sq.kms . Population Total 2,161,000 The normal temperature is maximum 22°C and minimum 6°C. Tourist season is all over the year. The distance from Islamabad to swat is 250 KMs. The valley of Swat is located in the middle of foothills of Hindukush mountain range.

History of Swat: Valley Swat, has a long and very rich history. In fact, Swat Valley History begins over 2000 years ago when the very first residents settled there. Back then, the town known today as Valley Swat was called Udyana and later Suvastu . Many Buddhists settling there as well in the second century BC. Unfortunately the peace ended in the 11th century AD, turning a new page in Swat Valley History. During this time, the area was invaded by Mahmud of Ghazni and was eventually taken over by the Dilazak and later, the Yusufzais .

In the 19th century, however, Akhund Sahib came to control the land, and all of the rules changed. The valley began to be ruled under peaceful Muslim laws. The conflicts finally stopped , and the agriculture, trade, and business areas began to thrive as a result. Unfortunately, when Sahib died, fighting started again. Today, however, the area is considered peaceful and even well established, despite these many setbacks and upheavals.

Mingora Mingora is the district headquarter and commercial centre of Swat.Mingora is one of the most important town of the Swat Valley. It is situated 2km from Saidu Sharif. The city is famous for its shopping.

Malam Jabba  Malam Jabba is one of the most beautiful resorts in the area of Swat. It is eighty seven hundred (8700)feet above the sea level. It is outstanding place for skiing and other activity . There is a chairlift also. it is situated on the top of Hindu Kush mountain range, in the North east of Mingora in swat Valley .

Kalam Valley Kalam , is the most beautiful part of the Swat valley. The galaxy of about 150 hotels, land of water falls, lakes, pastures, site of hiking and glaciers, having all the latest facilities of the modren age. Fizagat Park Fizagat Park is a recreational park in Mingora Swat. It is a popular destination for tourists visiting the valley of Swat, KPK. It is situated on the bank of the Swat River at Fizagat .

Marghazar The  White palace of   Marghazar  was built in 1940 by the first king of Swat ,   Miangul Abdul Wadud ( Badshah Sahib) in the small town of Marghazar situated at about 13 kilometers away from Saidu Sharif. The name was given to the palace as it was built of white marble. The palace now serves as a hotel

Swat Museum Swat Museum is located on main Mingora road . This museum has a huge collection of Gandhara sculptures from the Buddhist sites in Swat . The original museum was constructed by DOAM with the contribution of the Wali Swat and the Italian Mission in 1958,

Mahodand Lake It is 12 KM away from Kalam Valley. It is famous among nature and peace lovers and trout fish hunters. ‘Mahodand’ means ‘Lake of fishes’ (especially trout fishes ). Mahodand is the most beautiful Lake in swat valley. It is a very worth seen place. You can see many water falls on the way to Mohodand Lake.

Kundol Lake Kundal Lake is situated 21 km from Kalam . It is a very beautiful lake. It is Also famous among nature and trout fish. Kundal is a huge and extensive lake. Its length is 2 km and width is 1 km. The mountains around this small valley are covered with tall cedar and pine trees.

FOOD Swat Valley is an ideal place for trekking and fishing. One can take a walk from Kalam to Ushu . The trek takes leads to some beautiful spots between Kalam and Ushu . The army has launched jets, helicopters and artillery to pound Taliban positions in the mountains and valleys around Mingora , Swat's main town.

As the army moved in, civilians moved out. In a single day tens of thousands left Mingora, leaving the leafy riverside city a desert of abandoned homes and mined streets

"Everybody wants to get out of this hell," said one man, driving his children and cattle before him. More than 1,000,000 people have fled the fighting.

It is the largest human displacement in the country’s history. Help the displaced people of Swat, Dir and Buner.
