Things to remember while doing Strength analysis Do not limit your strengths that you are currently exhibiting in your life or in your job, list all of your strengths even the one that are dormant in your life Pay particular attention to the strengths that you have but your peers don’t. Compare yourself with peers and state how are you different unique and special as compared to them

Questions to ask while dealing with weakness What are your negative work habits and traits? Does any part of your education or training need improving What would other people see as your weakness? Where can you improve? What are you afraid to do and most likely to avoid?

Opportunities Look at the external factors that you can take advantage of to pursue your goals and dreams be it personal or professional

Opportunities questions to ask Is there any new upgradation to technology in the industry? Is there new demand for skill or trait you possess Is there a need in your company or industry that no one is filing Is your industry growing? Networking events, educational classes or conferences or work shop Look at your strenghts and see if they can open up an opportunity Look at your weakness and ask yourself if you could open up opportunities by eliminating these weakness

Threats Look at any threats in terms of career or life growth Take into account any external or internal factors which could stop you from attaining your goals

Factors to be taken into account Does your weakness inhibit the ability to rise in your job or life? Is your industry contracting or changing directions? Is there a strong competition for the type of jobs you are best suited? What is the biggest external threat to your goals? Are there any new professional standards that you cannot meet? Are there any new technology, certification, education that you require that will improve your progress

Ways to analyze information There are two ways to build a strategy Match or Convert

Matching Matching means connecting two of the categories to determine course of action Example match strengths to opportunities shows you where to be aggressive and take action Matching weakness to threats exposes those areas you should work on or situations to avoid Lets you know where to be more defensive about your position

Convert To convert is to turn negatives into positives Convert weaknesses into strengths and threats into opportunities Example upgrading yourself into education or creating a way in posing your negativity into positivity

Remember SWOT analysis will be effective only if you find elements to improve and implement your plan and is not treated as a grocery list.
