Lesson Objectives After this lesson, learners will be able to explain the beliefs of Syed Ahmed Barelvi .

Biography Syed Ahmad Barelvi was born on 29th of November 1786 in Rai Barelley in India. He was also known as Syed Ahmad Shaheed. In 1806 . He went to Delhi and enrolled (joined) in Madrrassa Rahimiya and for two years he studied under the sons of Shah Waliullah where he learned the Holy Quran and Hadith.

Beliefs of Syed Ahmed Barelvi He believed that freedom of Muslims could only come as a result of armed struggle against the foreign and non-Muslim forces which were oppressing them .

Syed Ahmad believed that there was need to end the evils that had corrupted Islamic society consequently.

He believed that Islam could be rejuvenated and rescued from beliefs and customs contrary to Islamic beliefs which had crept into every day life .
