About This Presentation

Synthetic Gypsum, or SynGyp is a manufactured form of gypsum. The most common form of synthetic gypsum is produced as a by-product of fossil-fueled power plants. This presentation looks at what synthetic gypsum is, how it came to be, and the benefits it has to offer.

Synthetic Gypsum: A Sustainable Alternative Experts in process design and material processing for over 60 years.

Gypsum c an be found in products all around us: from construction materials and cement, to soil amendments, and more.

And while traditional, mined gypsum has served as the raw material for these products, a manufactured form of gypsum is gaining in popularity: Synthetic Gypsum, otherwise called SynGyp .

Synthetic Gypsum is created as a by-product of industrial processing, particularly in the case of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) at fossil-fueled power plants .

Synthetic Gypsum is created as a by-product of industrial processing, particularly in the case of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) at fossil-fueled power plants . FGD Gypsum is the most common form of synthetic gypsum.

In the flue gas desulfurization process, scrubbers remove sulfur dioxide from gas pollutants before they can enter the atmosphere.

In the flue gas desulfurization process, scrubbers remove sulfur dioxide from gas pollutants before they can enter the atmosphere. This process was developed as part of the Clean Air Act , to prevent acid rain.

People quickly realized that the by-product created by this process could serve as a pure form of manufactured gypsum … …and that it offered many benefits.

Benefits of Synthetic Gypsum

Revenue is created from a product that otherwise incurred waste management costs. Benefit:

Material going to landfills is reduced. Benefit:

Sources of natural gypsum are conserved and the need to mine them is reduced. Benefit:

Both synthetic and natural gypsum are 100% recyclable , meaning they can be reused and reprocessed over and over without loss of quality. Benefit:

Synthetic Gypsum is now used interchangeably with natural gypsum in many applications.

Common Uses for Synthetic Gypsum

Synthetic gypsum offers a valuable opportunity to utilize a material that would otherwise be considered a waste. Conclusion

Synthetic gypsum offers a valuable opportunity to utilize a material that would otherwise be considered a waste. Additionally, it helps us to conserve our natural resources, and is 100% recyclable . Conclusion
