1. France is a country located on the continent of Europe. It has land borders with eight countries: Spain, Belgium, Monaco, Andorra, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Italy. It is bordered by the North Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, the English Channel and the Mediterranean Sea. Where Is France?

4. Climate France’s climate is divided into several zones. Most of the country experiences cool winters and warm summers, however summers are much hotter in areas near the Mediterranean Sea. Eastern coastlines enjoy the sunniest weather.

5. The Loire river is the longest river totally in France, measuring over 600 miles (966km) long. It begins in the south of France and flows into the Atlantic Ocean in the west. The highest mountain in France is Mont Blanc, standing at 4807 metres (15,771ft) tall. Mont Blanc is part of the Alps, which is a mountain range that spans across eight European countries. Massif Central is a large area of highlands in France. It contains mountains and dormant volcanoes, which means that they are no longer active. 6. Human Features The Eiffel Tower is one of France’s most well-known landmarks. Located in Paris, it attracts many tourists every year. It was completed in 1889 to commemorate the 100 th anniversary of the French Revolution.

Over one quarter of France is covered by forests. In warmer areas, oaks, beeches, maples and chestnuts grow in deciduous forests. In cooler areas, evergreen trees such as pines, firs and spruces grow. Provence is well-known for its lavender fields.

10. Pot-au-feu is the national dish of France. It is similar to a stew, slow cooking meat and vegetables for a long time. Beef is the most commonly used meat for this dish. Patisseries are popular in France, selling a wide variety of pastries and sweet treats. Croissants, macarons, éclairs and profiteroles are just some of the treats that are sold. 11. Football is the national sport of France. The men’s national team has won the World Cup twice, in 1998 and in 2018. The women’s team reached the quarter finals of the World Cup in 2023. Every year, a cycling race called The Tour de France is held in France. It lasts around three weeks and participants cycle over 2000 miles. Boules is a ball game that originated in France. 12. Famous People Napoleon Bonaparte was the emperor of France in the early 19th century. He was a military leader during the French Revolution. In 1789, the French people overthrew the monarchy, leading to France becoming a republic in 1792. This meant the country was ruled by the government rather than the king. Napoleon helped to defend France’s new government by leading troops in a series of battles. Coco Chanel was a fashion designer. She was famous for creating stylish but comfortable clothes. Her brand is still sold today. Claude Monet was an artist, known for his impressionist paintings. The Musée d’Orsay in Paris contains many pieces of his artwork.
