Taa - ت
The Third Letter in the Arabic

Name : Taa - ت
Basic Appearance : Taa - ت follows the basic shape of ب but has two dots on top
instead of one underneath..
How Taa- ت is written in a word differs according to it’s position in the word.ت is
connectable to both sides. It takes three forms depending on its position in the word:

Taa in isolated form : ت
Taa at the beginning of a word : رَﻣَﺗ
Taa in the middle of a word : رَﺗْﻋَز
Taa at the end of a word : تْوُﺗ

The tip of the
Tongue (نﺎﺳﻠﻟا فرط) touches
the gum line of the upper
central incisors while the
back portion of the tongue

Sifaat/ Characteristics of Taa - ت
• Linguistically : The
Concealment (Whisper).

• Technically : Running of
breath when pronouncing the
letter due to its weakness in its
origin, which happens due to
the weakness in its reliance on
its makhraj / articulation
point.


Hams - سْﻣَھ Shiddah - ةﱠدِﺷ
• Literally : Strength.

• Technically : Imprisonment
of the running of the sound
while pronouncing a letter
due to complete reliance on
its articulation point /
makhraj.

Sifaat/ Characteristics of Taa - ت

• Literally means - Lowering or
dropping.

• Technically means - keeping
the tongue lowered from the
roof of the mouth while
pronouncing a letter.


Istifaal - لﺎَﻔِﺗْﺳِإ Infitaah - حﺎَﺗِﻔْﻧِإ
• Literally means - Separation.

• Technically means - keeping the
tongue separated from the roof of
the mouth while pronouncing a
letter. Or,
The absence of compression of
the sound of the Infitaah letters
between the tongue and the roof
of the mouth.

Ismaat -
تﺎَﻣْﺻِإ
• Literally means desistance,
refusal.
• Technically means the
articulation of the letters with
utmost strength and stability
from their makhraj, without
which the letter will not be
articulated. The letter that has
this characteristic is considered
heavier because it doesn't rely
on the tip of the tongue.

Exaggeration of the hams cause
a س sound at the ending -
( اَذِإَو )
Making ت thick if
its followed by a
thick letter

properly when ت
