History of Teachers day . Each year in India, Teachers Day is celebrated on the 5th September to honor a celebrated academic, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan . Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on September 5th, 1888. He was Indias first Vice President and the second President. He was also a great scholar, philosopher and a bharat ratna recipient.
Significance of Teachers Day Dr. Radhakrishnan was a great scholar and it is said that his students were always keen to celebrate his birthday. Instead Dr. Radhakrishnan was the one who suggested that instead of celebrating his birthday it would be a privilege if that same day would be observed as Teachers Day.
