The Amazon river is in South America The Amazon is the second biggest river in the world. The largest river in the world is the Nile.

Rivers are very useful to there surroundings. They give animals water as well as people. Some rivers even drain the land. The Amazon drains the land in Columbia, Peru, Brazil and Bolivia

There are many different kinds of fish in the Amazon. One of these fishes is the ferocious piranha. The Amazon river provides for a variety of different animals .

Surrounding the Amazon river is the largest rainforest in the world, stretching over 5.5 million square kilometers . The U.K. and Ireland would fit in it 17 times. The Amazon river stretches over 6400km and is growing steadily.

In 2007 a man named Martin Strel swam the entire length of the Amazon river. He had to swim up to ten hours a day for sixty six days straight. He is the only person known to swim the entire length of the river.

There are no bridges crossing the Amazon . Mostly because there is no need, the Amazon people like to go through the rainforest. During the wet season the Amazon can reach over 190 km in width.

The Amazon is a wonderful place and has a lot of natural beauty. When I am older I would love to visit it and see all of its wonders.
