COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces students to the contemporary world by examining the multifaceted phenomenon of globalization. Using the various disciplines if the social sciences, it
examines the economic, social, political, technological, and other transformations that have created an increasing awareness of the interconnectedness of peoples and places
around the globe. To this end, the course provides an overview of the various debates in global governance, development, and sustainability. Beyond exposing the student to the
world outside the Philippines, it seeks to inculcate a sense of global citizenship and global ethical responsibility.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
At the end of the course the students should be able to:
1. Distinguish different interpretations of and approaches to globalization.
2. Describe the emergence of global economic, political, social, and cultural systems.
3. Analyze the various contemporary drivers of globalization.
4. Analyze the issues confronting the nation-state
5. Assess the effects of globalization on different social units and their responses.

COURSE POLICIES:
1. A student will be dropped from the class if his or her absences exceeded 20% of the total class hours.
2. A student will be marked late if he or she comes late for 15 minutes.
3. Three incidences of tardiness will be equivalent to one absence.
4. Use of any gadgets in the class is prohibited unless required by the instructor.
5. Submission of written outputs should only be made on or before the deadline.
6. Academic dishonesty like cheating in any examination, plagiarism and the like will be penalized as stipulated in the SIBTECH Student Handbook.
