I stepped onto the crumbling sidewalk
of a nation that claims to be,
A place of truth and freedom,
A land of opportunity.
“We trust in God,” this nation proclaims,
But trust died years ago,
And God is among the list of names of
people you don’t know.
There is a famine for love sweepin’ this nation,
There’s a famine for peace of mind,
There’s a famine for hope that’s
killin’ my generation,
There’s a famine killin’
all mankind.
There’s an echoing distant memory
of love that died in the Aquarian Age,
Now the air is thick with hatred;
Fear and anger are turned into rage.
My eyes are stinging with the tears that I
weep for the death of souls and lives:
Some buried alive from sadness,
Others perish from guns and knives.
There is a famine for love sweepin’ this nation,
There’s a famine for peace of mind,
There’s a famine for hope that’s
killin’ my generation,
There’s a famine killin’
all mankind.
“Behold, the days come, saith the
Lord God, that I will send a famine
in the land, not a famine of bread,
nor a thirst for water, but of
hearing the words of the Lord.”
AMOS 8:11
Oh, won’t you let me get you a Doctor,
Who can save your dying spirit?
He’s been calling your name for a long time,
Have you listened?
Can you hear it?
A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief,
It was for you He died.
And His Word of life can heal your soul.
And fill that emptiness inside.
There is a famine for love sweepin’ this nation,
There’s a famine for peace of mind,
There’s a famine for hope that’s
killin’ my generation,
There’s a famine killin’
all mankind.
