1. The Human Person as an Embodied Spirit What is the Human Person?

2. The following terms are related to the discussion of the human person: Man is the general term used to refer to the entire human race. (Other related terms include humanity, mankind, and humankind)

3. The following terms are related to the discussion of the human person: Human refers to man as species – Homo Sapiens Sapiens or modern human beings. Human being – used to distinguish man from other animals

4. The following terms are related to the discussion of the human person: Person (a more complex term) generally refers to a human being granted recognition of certain rights, protections, responsibilities, and dignity. Personhood refers to the state of being a person

5. The following terms are related to the discussion of the human person: Human Nature refers to the characteristics that distinguish humans from all other creatures.

6. What is a human person? Man, a highly social being, is an animal as well. In form and function, development and growth, reproduction, aging, and death,  he is a biological entity who shares the attributes of physical life with the millions of plant and animal species to which he is related . 7. Traits of a Human Person Self-awareness A person has a clear perception of oneself. A person is a rational being (has a deeper awareness driven by rationality). Interiority – the quality of being focused on one’s inner life and identity. Unteriority enables a person to exercise creativity.

8. Traits of a Human Person Self-determination It refers to the capability of persons to make choices and decisions based on their preferences. Monitor and regulate their actions. A person is goal-oriented and self-directed. (Try to raise your hands. Who makes you raise your hands?) Free will enables us to act whenever we want and makes self-determination possible.

9. Traits of a Human Person Self-determination A discussion on self-determination and free will eventually leads to a discussion of consequences. Consequence is the result or effect of an action or condition. There is a relationship between action and consequence. Morality – the goodness or badness of an act.

10. Traits of a Human Person Externality It is a capability to reach out and interact with others and the world. Man is a social being, and that a person never exists in isolation. Man has a natural tendency to seek out fellow human beings, and the relationships established by this interaction is a vital component for survival. Our interactions with others define our existence as persons.

11. Traits of a Human Person Dignity At its most basic, the concept of human dignity is  the belief that all people hold a special value that's tied solely to their humanity . It has nothing to do with their class, race, gender, religion, abilities, or any other factor other than them being human. The innate right to be valued and respected. Humans have an inherent worth or value.

12. Traits of a Human Person Dignity Each person is worth the same as another person in the sense that every person is priceless, unique, unrepeatable, and irreplaceable Whether one is a genius or mentally challenged or with handicaps or disabilities does not remove an individual’s dignity as a person.
